Key Points
  • Two betting tips for the Jumps racing at Market Rasen
  • The Skelton team seem sweet on their runner in the 16:35
  • My pick for the 17:45 is a very talented youngster

We’re off to Market Rasen for two strong fancies

Saturday is almost here and we have a Jumps meeting at Market Rasen to take a look at. It's a really good card of competitive action and I have two selections which I am feeling very confident about. The first is a well-handicapped horse from the Skelton yard and I think it’s significant that Harry Skelton has managed to do the weight to ride this one. This suggests to me that the yard is expecting a big run too.

My next selection comes about an hour later and I’ve found another very well-handicapped horse in this race. He is still a maiden at this point, but a very talented one. I think this race looks like the perfect opportunity for him to get into the winner’s enclosure this time around. I will be very disappointed if either of my selections let us down.

Coral - my bookie pick for Saturday

To help you out this Saturday, why not take advantage of some free bets from Coral? Bet £5, and you’ll get £20 in free bets. A great deal from a great bookie.

16:35 - Handicap Hurdle 2m ½f - Got Grey

Our first port of call is a highly-competitive Handicap Hurdle, and we have a really fascinating lineup here. Allmankind heads the weights as a former Grade 1 winner, but that form is very much in the past. He has been off the track over 600 days, and a big revival would be needed to see him feature here. That said, he is still only an eight-year-old, so anything is possible.

Our Champ is a nice horse for the Chris Gordon team, who are having a decent spell of things lately, and he definitely has the ability to go well here. He is a decent traveller, and he jumps well too, but he will need the race to set up for him if he is to win off his current mark. However, he may be vulnerable to one or two better-handicapped sorts. Pisgah Pike may fare best of the rest, having bounced back to form last time out at Worcester, and his 5lb rise doesn’t look too penalising.

But I think the one to go with here is Dan Skelton’s Got Grey. He is bottom-weight in this race, and very well-handicapped still. I imagine he will be held up for the best part of the race, ready to be delivered in the final couple of furlongs, and with his strong finishing pace he looks certain to be there or thereabouts at the line. Dan Skelton has two in the race, but the fact that Harry Skelton is able to do the weight of 10st 2lb is very significant. I expect Got Grey to take the world of beating here.

17:45 - Handicap Hurdle 2m 2f - Opera King

Next up, we have another Handicap Hurdle, but over a slightly longer trip this time. Nick Kent’s Bannister is a lovely horse. He is due a win sooner or later and his mark of 103 doesn’t look too bad at the minute. Although he needs everything to fall his way during the race, he is capable of a big performance nonetheless and must be respected. Karannelle is a really consistent horse for David Rees, and is likely to perform well here, so he could be worth considering each way for place money.

However, I prefer the unexposed Opera King in this line up, who runs for the Twiston-Davies team. He is still a maiden after his three Hurdle starts to date, but his third place finish last time out at Ludlow was full of promise, and he runs off a relatively low mark of 97. He comes here fresh from a break and is sure to be ahead of his handicap mark, leaving him open to tons of improvement. Opera King is trained by a solid outfit who do well with their youngsters, and I am expecting a big run from this talented four-year-old.

My betting tips for Saturday 👇

  • 16:35 Market Rasen - Got Grey
  • 17:45 Market Rasen - Opera King
