The weekend is just around the corner, and we have two cracking Group 3 races happening at Sandown. We start off with the Atalanta Stakes for the fillies and mare, and I have a strong NAP selection in this field. There are plenty of nice sorts in this lineup but one of them really stands out, and her form is far superior to that of any other runner in this field.
The second Group 3 race on the card is the Solario Stakes, where the Kingman colt, Field Of Gold, is short-priced favourite. And I am going to take him on with a colt who is open to bags of improvement on just his second start. My selection is definitely worth an each way punt at a very good price, and I’m pretty confident we can take some profit off the bookies this weekend.

We have plenty of nice sorts lining up for the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes, which is one for the fillies and mares. The Haggas team have entered a lovely mare called Doom, and even though she hasn’t managed to get her head in front so far, she is knocking on the door and I think there is still some untapped potential in her. Doha is another one with decent each way claims, as she only has four lengths to find with Group 1 winner Opera Singer.
But the one they all need to beat here is the Menuisier-trained filly
Tamfana, who gets a three-year-old allowance and has some seriously good form in the book already. Her latest three efforts have been in Group 1 company. The first was the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, where she finished less than a length behind Elmalka. She was travelling sweetly, but was denied a clear run for some time and when she eventually found a gap she closed the distance quickly, looking an unlucky loser at the finish. Her two following starts came in Group 1s at Chantilly and Longchamp, where she put in two huge performances in defeat.
Although she takes on the older horses here, she has consistently performed at a high level
and I don’t think any of her rivals can match any of her last three runs.
The second Group 3 at Sandown looks all set to be a cracker. One that intrigues me here is Victory Sound, who is currently priced at around 40/1. He is a flashy colt, who hasn’t beaten much so far, but he has had 70 days off the track, so he could have learned plenty since his last run. I’d certainly keep an eye on him in the betting. Field Of Gold is a lovely Kingman colt, and he was very impressive last time out at Newmarket, but it was a weak race, and his price is too short, so I am going to take him on.
I have decided to give Ralph Beckett’s Matauri Bay a chance. He has only run once to date, but he won in smart style and looks open to bags of potential. He was slowly away, but moved steadily through the field before going on to win by a couple of lengths. He looked quite green throughout the race, but the fact he was still good enough to win was revealing in terms of his potential. The runner up that day has since improved further, finishing second behind a smart sort at York last time out, which franks the form. Further improvement from this colt should see him getting heavily involved here. He has speed, he clearly has stamina, and his 7/1 price tag definitely looks worthy of an each way punt here.
