There are some cracking Jumps meetings on Saturday and I have three betting tips for Aintree and Wincanton. My NAP of the day comes up first in the Handicap Chase at Aintree, and this is a horse I have followed for some time now. He is very progressive, and although he gives weight away to the field, I expect him to get us off to a strong start.
We then head over to Wincanton, where my selection lines up for the Grade 2 Rising Stars Novices’ Chase. This horse has a fitness edge over his rivals and ticks all the right boxes for this race. This is another that I’m really quite taken with and I will be very disappointed if he doesn’t perform well here.
My final pick for Saturday runs in the Grand Sefton Chase at Aintree. As I write this, he is on the market at a double-figure price, which I find very surprising, considering his form. He is a seriously good Hunter Chaser, who has improved with every run. I don’t think any other runner in this field is better suited to the occasion than him and he is pretty much guaranteed to outrun his odds.
Bet365 is one of my all-time favourite bookies, and they have a handy bonus offer to help you out with your bets. If you
bet £10, then you’ll get £30 in free bets
to use as you wish. Feel free to give my selections some support if you decide to take up this generous deal!
It’s not the strongest field for this Handicap Chase, and I would give Magistrato an each way chance here. His form isn’t overly convincing, but he is consistent and in a race that looks a little trappy, he could have a say. Hunter Legend is probably still improving, but ideally, he needs more cut in the ground and is best left for next time.
Imperial Saint is easily the best bet for this race. He is clearly a cut above the rest, and despite giving weight to the field, I expect him to win decisively here. He was very consistent over Hurdles last season, and won over course and distance on his Chase debut last month. He should have come on for that run, and as a good horse in an average field of more exposed horses, this race should be his for the taking.
Over to Wincanton next, for the Grade 2 Rising Star Novices Chase. Despite there only being five runners in this race, it should be a cracker. Ben Pauling’s Handstands is a really interesting entrant. He was very progressive over Hurdles last season, chalking up a string of wins before finishing sixth behind Ballyburn at the Cheltenham Festival. If you have seen my Ben Pauling Stable Tour article, you will already know that Chasing is the long term plan for this gelding, and it will be interesting to see how he gets on.
However, my pick is
Insurrection, who is running for Paul Nicholls. He already has fitness on his side and looks like a horse with plenty of improvement still to come.
We already know that he can handle the ground, based on his Chase debut, where he finished second to Springwell Bay at Chepstow. That in itself is strong form, as the Nicholls yard wasn't exactly doing well at that point in time. I’m sure he will have improved from that experience, and I expect him to strip even fitter this time. Insurrection is the number one box-ticker in this field, and I predict an easy win for him.
The Grand Sefton Chase is a race I really enjoy watching every year, so let’s take a look at some of the runners in the 2024 lineup. Richmond Lake is a horse that looks an ideal candidate for this race. He has always come over as a horse that could progress, and has won here at Aintree previously. King Turgeon is sure to be on the premises if he can back up his latest win, and it looks like he still has plenty in hand off this mark too. The David Pipe team are firing on all cylinders this season as well, so there is plenty in his favour.
Personally, I’m going for the hugely overpriced Gaboriot here. He was largely progressive last season, and was travelling better than most before unseating his rider in the Foxhunters at the Grand National meeting. Before displacing his jockey, he was hot on the tail of the winner, who has some very strong form in the book, which does give Gaboriot some sort of form line too. He more than made up for his error that day by winning his next two starts, and connections pinpointed this race as his target. I expect him to be fit and ready to go, and he looks to be on a very workable Handicap mark too. I am really positive about his chances in the Grand Sefton on Saturday, and I’m sure he won’t disappoint.
