Betting Tips - Sunday 14 September - Doncaster

Publish Date: 14/09/2025

Key Points
  • Today’s betting tip has fallen to a dangerous handicap mark
  • He has not had his favoured going conditions all season but it looks like he’ll get them here
  • He’s yet to tackle Doncaster but his wins have come at similar tracks in Haydock and York

It was a frustrating day yesterday as we had no joy with either of my selections. The antepost bet on White Birch looked fantastic with him backed from 10/1 into as short as 4/1 with the ground turning Soft as hoped. However, it dried dramatically, he drifted back out to 13/2 and he could only finish fifth. Due to the risk taken on the ground and the fact he was going there without a run, it was only half stakes. The other selection, Be Frank, also finished fifth but it was an incredibly frustrating watch as he was slowly away, raced in rear and raced extremely wide, which is everything you don’t want at Chester..!

Hopefully though, we can bounce back to winning ways today! If you are new to my articles, I’m the resident horse racing tipster here at Betting.co.uk and I post five articles per week for them. These are mainly daily betting tips like today’s article but they can also be other types of articles such as antepost tips, guides and big race trends.

Speaking of antepost tips, I already have a few posted, so make sure you check them out if you like antepost betting. For 2025, I have covered the Cesarewitch Handicap and the King George VI Chase. Then for 2026, I have already looked ahead to the Brown Advisory Novices Chase at the Cheltenham Festival as well as the Aintree Grand National.

Betting advice

  • 15:00 Doncaster - Purosangue @ 10/1 (5 places) - 0.5pt each way

Betway are my bookmaker recommendation for this bet

At the time of writing, there are several bookmakers offering 10/1 and five places. Many of them are the big names that you will already be familiar with. Therefore, I wanted to highlight Betway to you. The brand has a great sign up offer currently. If you bet Ā£10, you’ll get another Ā£10 in free bets. Not a deal to overlook unless you already have an account there!

The going is key to Purosangue and he can show his best today

With the going officially soft with some further rain forecast to fall, I think it could be Purosangue’s time to shine. In this article, I’ll be breaking down my case for him, so make sure you read on to understand my logic.

Purosangue has fallen to a dangerous handicap mark

At his peak, Purosangue was rated 107 by the handicapper and he has produced RPRs as high as 111, so he is a serious animal on his day. However, his handicap mark has begun to come down and he is now rated 11lb below that peak on a mark of 96.

Considering he is a Listed winner and he has also placed multiple times in Group and Listed level races, he looks very dangerously handicapped to me. Whilst you cannot take RPRs literally, if he was to rediscover his best form judged on them and run to 111, he’d have 15lb in hand with his current rating! As a rule, to be winning a competitive handicap, you want to be having around 7lb-10lb in hand.

Purosangue has not had his favoured going conditions all season but it looks like he’ll get them here

I think a huge factor in his quiet season to date has been the extremely dry spring and summer that we have had. Purosangue’s best form has come when there has been juice in the ground. If you judge his performances by RPRs, then five of the six top performances have come either on Soft or Good to Soft ground.

Yesterday, the racing at Doncaster started off on Good, Good to Soft in places after initially being called Good to Soft, Good in places. However, following race 3, the Going was changed to Soft. With the latest update being Soft going and with further rain forecast (albeit plenty of it expected after the race time), I think he’ll finally get his conditions today. If he can bounce back to form with a return to his favoured going conditions, then he will run a huge race today.

Purosangue has yet to tackle Doncaster but his wins have come at similar tracks in Haydock and York

As a general rule, you like to see course form on a horse’s record. However, Purosangue has never run at Doncaster during his career. That said, if you cannot have course form, you would like to see them before well on similar tracks and Purosangue definitely ticks that box.

Purosangue has recorded two wins to date and they have come at Haydock and York, both tracks that share similar characteristics to Doncaster in that they are flat galloping tracks. If he can perform at those two tracks, I would be very hopeful that he could translate that form across to Doncaster.

It is also worth noting that as well as the win at York, he has also gone close there with two seconds, one by a neck in other runs there. That neck second came in a Listed Race over 6f on Good to Soft ground, producing a joint career best RPR of 111, so that bodes well for today’s race.

Can Purosangue show his best at Doncaster today?

In my opinion, there are enough positives to make Purosangue of serious interest today. His falling mark now has him sat dangerously handicapped, it looks like he is going to get his favoured ground and he has form at similar tracks to Doncaster.

All of that said, there are some concerns. Firstly, I’d have liked to see Oisin Murphy in the saddle but unfortunately he is riding over at Longchamp tomorrow. Secondly, I do worry that the ground could dry back if we don’t have much further rainfall between now and the race. Finally, he races over 6.5f today and he’s only ventured beyond 6f once. That was over 7f last time out at Goodwood and he didn’t look to stay, so there would be a niggling stamina doubt for me too.

At a price of 10/1, I feel there are more than enough positives to justify having a bet on Purosangue today. However, due to the concerns, I’m limiting that bet to half stakes. If the ground remains on the soft side come race time, I’d be more confident and if it dries up come race time, I’d be less so.
