Welcome back golfing fans. This week I am focusing solely on the DP World Tour, as the DLF Golf and Country Club hosts the Indian Open for the fifth time. This is certain to be an entertaining tournament, as it’s a proper tough test of golfing ability and the scores very rarely reach double digits. You can expect plenty of drama, so a player with a lot of patience is a much-needed trait for this week’s event.
The results have been very unusual on the DP World Tour in recent weeks, and we have a stacked bunch at the top of the market - all with obvious chances. But I feel the need to take a look a little further down the field, because a tough course often brings surprise results. The top 15 or so in the market range from about 14/1 to 22/1. So, in terms of betting tips, if you happen to fancy one of the top players, then go for a win single punt. But otherwise, it’s better to take your chances with some each way value a little lower down.
I’ll get onto my selections very shortly, but just a quick reminder that we are now only two weeks away from the first Major of the season. On that score, I will have an each way Lucky 15 covering all four of this year’s Majors coming next week, so make sure to stay tuned for that.
For the Indian Open, I have taken Ladbrokes prices for my golf selections and they have a great deal for new recruits if you don’t already have an account there.Bet £5, and you’ll get £20 in free bets. It’s a great chance to try that single I mentioned earlier, and then to use your freebies for some each way value.
The DP World Tour heads to New Delhi this week, for the Hero Indian Open and I am very much looking forward to this event. It’s a really tough Par 72 course over 7416 yards, with a very difficult layout. Finding birdies round here isn’t at all easy, so the players are going to have to work really hard to achieve a good score this week. To give you an idea, during the 2023 version of this event there were only seven bogey-free rounds over the four days, so it’s all about patience.
If you want to know the areas that players need to focus on, I would say that approach and wedge play are the two most important. Those skills need to be right on point this week to grab birdie opportunities. The approaches are far from easy here, so if you have a player that can remain consistent over the four days in that department, then there’s a good chance of them limiting damage this week, because there will be plenty of mistakes made around here I can assure you.
My first selection for this week is the smooth-swinging Sebastian Soderberg, who has really established himself as a top DP World Tour player in the last year or so, and I think he is one to have on side this week. He has one of the best swings you will see on Tour, and for the most part, he is very consistent - a big advantage this week.
This season he has climbed all the way up to world number 143 and looks to be very comfortable where he is too, so a second DP World Tour title is definitely not out of the question. I would have preferred a little bit more value than the 28/1 on offer, but
I think he has the credentials to win here and he’s an easy choice
for this week’s squad.
My second pick for this week is Guido Migliozzi. I think he is a player that is coming back into form at just the right time for this event and this course should be ideal for him. Guido is a three-time winner on the DP World Tour, but he lost his game for a while, but this season, he looks like he could just be finding a little bit of his old spark, and he comes here after a top 20 finish in last week’s Singapore Classic.
That minor victory definitely gives him something to build on, and if he can reproduce some of his old form here, then he could easily be the overpriced player in this week’s field. He is plenty long off the tee, and I think he has a really good iron game too. If he can come into this event with plenty of confidence, that will definitely help his cause and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him do very well indeed.
