Today we head across the Irish Sea to Leopardstown for their 1m1f handicap with €100,000 guaranteed! With the great prize money on offer, a competitive looking field of 15 have turned up but I think I have found the winner for you at a tasty price!
If you’re new here, I post four betting tips most weeks, but you’ll sometimes find other types of content too, including guides, big race trends and antepost picks. By the way, don’t forget to check out my antepost selections for the 2025 St Leger, 2026 Cheltenham Festival and the 2026 Aintree Grand National to grab some early prices. I’ll have more betting tips for you tomorrow and Saturday too, so make sure you check back in then.
The majority of the bookmakers are offering 14/1 with 4 places. However, there are a couple shorter at 12/1. When the odds are the same across various bookmakers, you need something that makes one stand out. For me, that is BetMGM and their sign up offer for new customers. If you bet £10, they’ll give you £40 of free bets. Huge value all round!
There are many reasons that I like Couer d’Or today. Make sure to read this article to the end in order to understand my views on the horse.
Today’s betting tip, Couer d’Or, has an eye-catching record at this track. He has run twice here with both runs coming over today’s distance, resulting in a win and a place. His placed effort came in the 2023 renewal of this race, where he finished third. That was a fantastic effort as he was giving 13lb to the winner and 18lb to the second-placed horse. In addition, he also had to come from Stall 14 that day.
Last time out Couer d’Or tackled a valuable Handicap over 1m at the Curragh. He finished fifth that day but the performance can be marked up in my opinion. He raced in rear and he was denied a clear run over 2f out. He switched right before switching back left and made headway from over 1f out.
He kept on towards the finish but sadly the damage had already been done. Considering the interference he suffered, he did very well to only get beaten by 1.5 lengths at the line. I also think that the step up in trip to 1m 1f will benefit him considering how well he stayed on that day.
Despite my thinking that the run should be marked up, the handicapper has actually dropped him 1lb from 99 down to 98. In my opinion, he ran to at least his mark of 99, if not better, and the Racing Post Ratings agree with a RPR of 102. With the drop down to 98, I feel he has a huge chance in this race and he now sits just 1lb above his last winning mark of 97. As well as that, he has also placed in big Handicaps off a mark of 100, so he is certainly capable of being very competitive.
At a price of 14/1, I feel Couer d’Or is significantly underestimated in the market, and with the four places on offer, I think he looks fantastic value for an each way bet. He has course and distance form, he has favourable ground conditions, a low draw in Stall 1, and he’s on a very competitive mark. Whilst I can rattle off the positives for him, I’m struggling to find any real negatives about his chances.
Arguably, it is a worry that he’s gone nearly two years now without a win, but hopefully he can change that today. The other slight concern I have is that he was held up last time, and the pace in the race looks weak. That said, for his C&D win, he was positively ridden from a low draw. If they adopt those same tactics, which I hope they do, and he is granted an easy time at the front end, he could be very hard to reel in.
He carries top weight of 10st here, which is a hefty burden but he does so because he is the best horse in the race. I also think he’s handicapped to strike and can give his rivals the weight and a beating. With question marks over the tactics, the fact he has to shoulder 10st and the worry that he’s gone nearly two years without a win, I’m trimming the stake down to 0.75pt each way. The law of averages suggests he is overdue a win and I’m hoping that comes today.
