Today’s betting tip comes from Yarmouth and she runs in the 1m 6f Handicap. She knows what it takes to win this race, and I’m hopeful she can do it again today!
If you’re new to my betting.co.uk articles, I post four articles most weeks. These are mostly betting tips, but you’ll also come across big race trends and antepost picks too. Speaking of the latter, I have already put up antepost selections for both the 2026 Cheltenham Festival and the 2026 Grand National, so if you haven’t already seen those, make sure you take a look. Lastly, I will be posting another betting tip for tomorrow’s racing action too, so make sure you check back in for that.
If you are looking to bet on today’s selection, Cherry Cola, I’d recommend that you do so with StarSports! First and foremost they are offering the best price of 11/2. They are a fantastic bookmaker to use, as they are never afraid to lay a bet and that cannot be said for all bookmakers these days!
On a tricky day of racing, Cherry Cola caught my eye. There are a number of reasons I think she can win today, and she certainly looks fantastic each way value. In this article, I’ll break down my reasons for selecting her today.
In 2023, Cherry Cola lined up in this race off a mark of 61, and won comfortably by 2.25 lengths, producing a RPR of 71. She was unable to take part in the 2024 renewal, as she was rated 67 at that time, just slightly too high to get into this Class 6 (0-60) Handicap. Now down to a mark of 59, she returns here in an attempt to regain her crown and I think she has a fantastic chance of doing so.
I fully acknowledge that Cherry Cola is a nine-year-old, and with 61 runs under her belt in all disciplines, she isn’t suddenly going to find improvement. However, I do feel she is well-handicapped off a mark of 59.
In the last 12 months, she has run over the 1m 6f distance six times on turf. Those six runs have produced form figures of 553244 and more importantly, they have produced RPRs of 68, 66, 69, 69, 54 and 66. Horses are animals and you can always forgive one poor run, or off day. So if you remove that RPR of 54, she has performed very consistently over the last 12 months with figures ranging from 66 to 69.
If she can repeat that level of performance today, at a mark of 59 she would have enough in hand, making her very hard to beat. A performance of that calibre would certainly see her in the places at the very least.
If you took her reappearance run at Windsor literally, you would struggle to make a case for her today. She only beat one rival home, she was more than eight lengths behind the winner, producing a RPR of just 51.
However, she usually races over 1m 6f to 2m on the Flat, but she was dropped back to a trip of 1m 3.5f for that run. Now I’m sure they didn’t suddenly expect her to find a sudden turn of speed at her age, especially considering how exposed she is. So, the logical reason is that it was just a prep run to blow away the cobwebs after her 193-day break, and it should have done exactly that.
With that run under her belt, she will have no excuses fitness wise and I think she can improve on that run significantly with the step back up to 1m 6f.
When you consider Cherry Cola’s form over this trip last year, the fact that she has won this race previously, and her current handicap mark, I think she must have an outstanding chance today.
We also know this mare is race fit, and it’s great to see that her trainer, Sheena West, had a winner last week. Moreover, it was today’s 5lb claimer, Rose Dawes, who rode that one. With Rose in the saddle here, Cherry Cola effectively runs off a mark of just 54, bringing her racing weight down from 9st 8lb to 9st 3lb, which is also helpful.
At the age of nine, Cherry Cola isn’t guaranteed to return to her ability level of last year, as she could have regressed, so there is an element of risk attached to this bet. We are backing an older horse and this is a very low level race, where the horses that contest them can often be unreliable, so I’m only prepared to play half stakes on this one. That said, I am going into this with my glass half full, and hopefully back at the correct trip and with her favoured quicker conditions, Cherry Cola can run a big race!
