The racing week is well under way and on Thursday I have four selections that I think are going to go very well indeed. I have two selections over the sticks at Market Rasen and two for the Flat cards at Lingfield and Catterick, So there’s something to suit all of you.
Looking ahead a little, we have some really good racing on Saturday and I will have a Lucky 31 for you, which will include selections from the Group racing at York and Haydock. So keep your eyes peeled for that!
For Thursday’s racing action I have teamed up with BetUK to bring you a fantastic offer. If you sign up and
bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. A nice boost for your weekend betting.
In this six furlong sprint, Sir Bolton makes a fair amount of appeal, after finishing third over five furlongs last time out at Lingfield, and he would have got even closer to the winner if he didn’t blow the start. If he gets out the stalls on level terms, stepping up a furlong should suit him well and I can see him getting competitive here.
However, I think the winner here will be the Marco Botti-trained Amroon, who looks very well-handicapped and when the penny fully drops, he will turn into a useful horse. He has shown a fair level of ability already, but there is definitely more to come and he looks open to more than the rest of this average-looking field. I’ll take my chance on him being the most likely prospect here.
My second selection for Thursday runs in the Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen. Chaos Control looks like he will get competitive off his mark, and probably hasn’t finished improving yet either. He hasn’t been tried much so far, but one thing that looks sure to suit here is the step back up in trip. He is a nice horse to go forward with and could be worth following long-term. Magical Hill enters the calculation too, having won on his first run of the season, and he has confirmed stamina beyond this trip too. Patrick Neville does well with these young progressive types and he will likely make his presence felt.
But my choice is
Notnowlinda, from the Dan Skelton team, who looks like a gelding on a nice upward curve. He is a strong traveller and I like the fact he finishes his races well, because on this fast ground you definitely need a horse with plenty of pace. He made a few mistakes last time out at Hereford, which he hasn’t done previously, but still managed to finish second, with just over a length between him and Big Blue Moon.
I think there is still more improvement to come from this progressive gelding, and he should win this
easily.
The next Market Rasen race on the card is a Handicap Chase over the marathon 3m 3f trip, and this is going to take some winning. Benny Baloo is a horse who stays well, but this is his first attempt over the trip, so he’s a bit of an unknown quantity here. I don’t see him winning this race, but he is well worth a crack for place money if the price is right.
So I think the best bet here is Post Chaise, a lovely horse who is running for the Greenall and Guerreiro team. He has mostly run over three miles, but he ran over this longer trip at Sedgefield last season, where he stayed on with no problem at all. He won’t be troubled by the fast ground, and provided his jumping holds up, I think he has a huge chance in this race.
In the May Handicap we have a competitive field and you can probably make a case for a fair few of these based on their best form. The one I fancy the most though is the Geoffrey Harkkey-trained Key Look, who has put in some massive performances over course and distance previously, and is down to a mark of just 49 now.
Not only has he come down to a very tempting mark, he bounced back to form here last time out, finishing a close third to Seasons d’Or, and a repeat performance sees him bang in the mix. His past form has been a bit up and down, which needs to be taken into account. That said, I expect him to take a step forward, and even minor progress from that last run would see him hard to beat in my opinion.
