We are racing at Ludlow on Thursday and I think I have two winners on the books. My first betting tip is one of my favourite horses in training, and she makes her seasonal debut in the two-mile Novices’ Hurdle. She was very impressive when winning two Bumpers last season and has Graded form to go with it. She is receiving weight from her rivals this time around and should be a seriously tough mare to beat.
Then we go on to the three-mile Handicap Hurdle and I have another strong fancy here. This horse that did his best work late on last time out, and steps up markedly in trip here. I think he will stay no problem, and I think both of my Thursday selections will end up in the winners enclosure
With a cracking Jumps meeting on Thursday, it’s the perfect time to pick up some free bets. Just bet £10, and you’ll get £60 in free bets. Who can find a better deal than that?
My NAP bet for Thursday comes in the Novices’ Hurdle and it looks like she will have some decent competition in this field. Kalium and Stone’s Throw both won Bumpers in May, and have significant potential on their switch to Hurdles. Kalium is probably the most interesting of the pair. He was purchased straight from Ireland after bolting up in his only race, and he has a nice pedigree too, but definitely needs to show ability in this new discipline. Dan Skelton’s Jafimgoso was a beaten favourite on his Hurdles debut, but he is likely to do better this time.
For me though this race is all about Jamie Snowden’s lovely mare,
La Marquise, who is a seriously smart prospect for the season ahead.
This mare won two Bumpers in smart fashion last season, both on soft ground, then finished third behind Diva Luna in a Grade 2 at Aintree. Despite the fact that her Hurdles debut will also be her first run of the season, this race looks perfect for her. It’s quite likely that won’t be much of a price, but she is very smart, and I am convinced that she is classy enough to take this race.
This three-mile Handicap Hurdle looks like a fairly open contest on paper. Horizon D’or ran a pleasing seasonal debut last time out at Fontwell and only weakened late on in the contest. The slight drop back in trip here will help his case though, and he could strip fitter on his second start of the season.
However, the one that I have my eye on here is Opera King, who is running for the Twiston-Davies team. When I put him up last time, he finished a very decent second. He was slightly outpaced at one point, but finished with a late flourish and looked like a step up in trip would be ideal for him. Although he steps up a fair bit in distance here, I have no issues or doubts about his stamina, and I actually believe that it’s a very smart move. He travels well, and will be much more comfortable at a slower pace. Provided he can pull off another sprint finish like his last one, I expect Opera King to be very tough to beat.
