For Thursday’s racing, I decided to focus on finding some value bets, which led me to the Jumps cards at Lingfield and Taunton. My NAP selection for Thursday contests in the opening race at Lingfield. This will be his second race of the season, but he is back to his optimum trip here, so I expect him to go much closer this time.
My second pick of the day has an excellent chance in the Handicap Chase over at Taunton. He is also on his second start of the season, having made a huge impact on his first run. He was only beaten by a head last time out at Chepstow, but still looks incredibly well-handicapped.
I’m certain that both these horses will give us a good run for our money. Then looking ahead to the weekend we have more Grade 1 action, plus some other valuable races taking place at Newcastle, Newbury and Fairyhouse. I already have my eyes on the form book and I’ll be bringing you plenty more betting tips very soon.
With some cracking Jumps action at Lingfield and Taunton on Thursday, why not grab yourself some free bets?
Bet £10, and you’ll get £30 in free bets. Just in time for the big weekend ahead of us.
I only see one winner in this Handicap Hurdle, although I do find Ben Pauling’s Just Chasing May a rather intriguing entrant. The last time I saw him, his jumping left a lot to be desired, but I did notice that he did his best work late on. I think it’s more than possible that this step up in trip will bring out more improvement in him, and although I won’t be backing him this time, I’m looking forward to seeing him run again.
My choice here, and my NAP bet of the day, is Seamus Drinkwater’s
Twp Stori. He returned from a layoff to run a credible race over two miles, but that trip is much shorter than he needs.
Prior to his break he had form figures of 3212, finishing just a neck behind Dan Skelton’s Major Fortune over course and distance on one occasion. His first run will have blown any cobwebs away, and as he returns to his optimum distance, I expect him to be bang on for this race.
Over at Taunton I have my eyes on a competitive Handicap Chase. There are a few in the field who are looking a little exposed, but Paddy The Caddy is one runner who is possibly still on the up. He won comfortably at Warwick last time out, but he carries a 7lb penalty for that effort and gives weight away to the field, making this a tough task for him. Gerard Mentor is another horse with some potential. Although he has been a bit hit and miss, if he turns up here on top form he will definitely come into the equation.
But for me, Ventara is the one that looks open to the most improvement. He is a lovely gelding by Kayf Tara, and even though he was a beaten favourite last time out, he ran a very good race and is sure to strip much fitter this time. If you bear in mind that he only went down by a head, after almost a year off the track, you can see clearly why I find him so appealing. He runs off a mark of just 93, so he is nicely handicapped to get competitive, and the Joe Tizzard team are absolutely flying right now. I am expecting Ventara to be right in the mix here.
