The first official Jumps meeting of the 2024/25 NH season takes place at Chepstow in just under two weeks, so it’s definitely high time to start warming up for the action. On Thursday we have racing from Warwick, where the first two races are quite interesting Novice Hurdles. The two selections I have come up with are very intriguing sorts, and both look sure to go well on their respective Hurdles debuts. Keep the stakes small for this pair though, as we don’t want to get too stuck in before the official start of the Jumps season.

My first betting tip for Thursday runs in the opening race where we have a decent looking Novice Hurdle. Dan Skelton runs two here with Cherry Brave and Skiffle Man. Both look open to improvement in this company, but neither of them look particularly straightforward either.
The one I am interested in here is Tom Lacey’s
Marlacoo. He won nicely at Down Royal on his debut for the Crawfords before switching yards, and he certainly looks full of promise. He was held up that day, then just picked his rivals off one by one before running away in the final furlong, and he didn’t even need to be pushed to do so.
The fact he has switched yards is significant, and I expect a big performance from him on his Hurdles debut. He clearly has a lot of speed and provided his jumping skills are up to scratch, he should be heavily involved at the deep end.
The next race on the Warwick card is another 2m Novice Hurdle, and the Skelton team are double handed for a second time. The first to mention is Ronnies Rules, who won his last three Bumper starts, and makes his Hurdles debut here. He has been a nicely progressive sort and should go well if he takes to obstacles, but his stablemate, Sunray Shadow, is the one that takes my fancy here.
Sunray Shadow really impressed me on his only Bumper start to date. He was green for the most part, but he was well in command at the finish line. The fact that he won, despite doing plenty wrong, really piqued my interest. He seems like a sort with bags of potential and I don’t think he will even need to improve a great deal to win on his Hurdles debut here. In fact, he looks to me like a horse who will be worth following through this season. I fully expect him to win this race before going on to bigger things.
