On Thursday we have two meetings to take a look at and I have one selection from each for you. My NAP pick of the day runs in the Novices’ Hurdle at Market Rasen and this is a horse that is improving with each run to date. He already has a decent mark, but he looks like he still has plenty more improvement in him and I think he is well worth a punt.
Later on at Wincanton I have found a runner in the 3m 2f Handicap Chase that I’m rather keen on. Although he was beaten last time out, this is a horse that looks on an upward curve and the front two were way ahead of their rivals. I’m going each way due to the competitive nature of this race, but I’m sure we will see him in the mix at the finishing line.
BetMGM is my Thursday bookie pick, and for good reason. If you
bet £10, you’ll get £60 in free bets. You won’t get a better deal than this ahead of the weekend!
A small, but quite decent field lines up for this Novices’ Hurdle. Although Tamarind Bay is still a maiden after four starts under Rules, his form shows a fair amount of ability. He is only a four-year-old, and this is only his second start over Hurdles, but nonetheless he is dangerous to write off. He was 13 lengths back off Dan Skelton’s smart Novice Hurdler The New Lion on his Hurdles debut, so based on that he has a chance.
It’s Hard To Know represents the Ben Pauling team, and he won on debut for connections, after being sent straight over Hurdles on his first start. It was a shockingly good performance too - he went from the front and just stayed there, going on to win comfortably. His jumping could use a bit of tidying up, but he clearly has a good engine on him, and is another who could pose a threat.
However, Dan Skelton’s
Sunray Shadow
is the winner here in my opinion. He has really impressed me with his progression from run to run. He won his Bumper debut in good fashion, made up late ground to finish a close third at Warwick on his Hurdles debut, and then backed it up with a much more professional round of jumping to win on his latest start at Aintree.
Although he hung left at the finish that last day, he still won going away and his mark of 119 looks fully deserved. I think he will improve again and looking at the form of his rivals, I’d say they will need to have come on a lot to beat Sunray Shadow here.
This Handicap Chase for the Stayers has a really competitive 13-runner field lining up, and it would be easy to make a case for a few of them. Top-weighted Langley Hundred is an interesting one for the Hobbs team, having held on well last time out at Hereford to beat Faded Fantasy by a neck. He has only gone up 2lb in the Handicap for that win, but he is still giving weight away to this field and is one that needs things to go right for him. School For Scandal is on for a hat trick bid, after beating Jony Max on his last two starts. The pair clash yet again here, and while both are sure to run decent races, by the same token, neither are looking ahead of their Handicap marks.
I’ve decided to go with Safe Destination for this race. He is an excellent jumper, who has run really well for the Twiston-Davies team in recent weeks, and as a six-year-old, he could still be open to more improvement than some others in the field. He won off a mark of 89 on his first start of the season, and then pulled well clear of the winner next time out off a mark of 94. He has an extra 2lbs to contest with here, but that won’t be an issue at all - Sam Twiston-Davies knows exactly how to handle this horse, and will most likely ride him prominently again. I certainly expect to see Safe Destination firmly in the mix, but as this is a very competitive race, I advise an each way bet on this occasion.
