Here we go with another week of racing content and we kick this one off with a betting tip from Southwell. I think this horse has a fantastic chance of getting his head in front after no less than three near misses. He’s currently available at a backable each way price, and I feel he’s worth a punt on that basis.
If you’re reading my content for the first time, I’m RacingGav and I’m the resident horse racing tipster for Betting.co.uk. You will find me producing five articles per week for them with a range of different content. First and foremost, we have daily betting tips like this one but we also have antepost ones too. In addition to that, I also produce big race trends and even guides.
If you’re a punter who likes betting antepost, be sure to check out my articles that are already live. This year I have selections for the Cesarewitch Handicap and the King George VI Chase. Then in 2026, I have selections for the Cheltenham Festival and Aintree Grand National.
At the time of writing, most bookies have Alligator Alley priced at 9/2 with three places. But looking at the sign up offers, I think you’ll struggle to do much better than BetMGM. New customers who bet £10, get £40 of free bets. One of the best deals currently out there.
As a classy horse and strong travelling type, Alligator Alley should be stalking the leaders into the final furlong. Hopefully Kaiya Fraser can say go and he will put the race to bed to break his run of three consecutive second places. Keep reading to find out more.
Course form is always a big plus in racing and Alligator Alley loves this 5f trip at Southwell. Overall, he has a record of two wins and two places from six runs at this track, with form figures of 311435.
It is also worth noting that the real form behind those figures is even stronger, as he had excuses for the two runs where he finished out of the places. For his fourth placed finish, he was held up in rear, and there was a strong tailwind which benefitted the prominent horses in the race. During his latest start here, he travelled like a dream, but was badly hampered twice. One inside was prior to the 1f post and the second was inside the final furlong when he was clearly staying on. Given the interference, the fifth place is not a fair reflection of his performance.
Judged on RPR, such is his love for Southwell that he produced his career best performance here, winning a Class 2 Handicap off a mark of 100 back in January 2023. Hopefully this C&D canHopefully, being back here once again will allow him to shine and, fingers crossed, result in another win.
This horse certainly knows how to get his nose in front, as he is an eight-time winner. That said, he has been a frustrating horse to follow lately, having only managed second place three times in a row.
While inevitably frustrating for his followers, there are the positives to take from his run of second places too. He has remained consistent, he is fit, and clearly in good form. Looking deeper still, three runs back he came second to Azure Angel, and she won again last Sunday (the Discord backed her at 18/1), which gives the form an even stronger look.
Looking closely at his latest effort, he ran a mighty race considering he was on unfavourably soft ground. All of his best form has either come on the AW, or quicker going when on Turf, so I think that performance can be marked up too.
As a general rule, you don’t get many hard luck stories at Southwell, since it’s a pretty fair track. That said, they can sometimes drift across towards the stand side rail, and if that happens, a low draw can leave you vulnerable on the outside, which is not the best scenario. Given the choice, a high draw would be preferable to a low one.
On the straight track at Southwell, where the pace is, and where you are drawn, can be more influential than the stall number. Looking at the race, I cannot see much pace in the lower stalls. I’d say the main pace angles are Night On Earth (5) and Mon Na Slieve (8). Alligator Alley is drawn between that pair in stall seven.
Hopefully, the aforementioned pair can take one another on for the lead, and set the race up for lurking close behind, which I’m hoping will be Alligator Alley. From his draw, he should be able to find a nice spot just behind them, take a tow, and then come through with a late challenge.
As you can see, there is plenty in Alligator Alley’s favour today. He clearly loves this C&D, he has been in great form, which can be marked up, plus his draw and the race could easily set up perfectly for him.
On the flip side, he’s not the horse he once was, and he has failed to find the little extra he needed to win his last three races. In addition, when it comes to 5f sprinters, particularly those who are held up, plenty of luck in running is required too.
Considering the positives and negatives, I feel Alligator Alley is worth a bet at 9/2. Whilst some are not keen on going each way unless the odds are at least 5/1, I judge each bet individually. I feel 9/2 is a lovely price for Alligator Alley. I would like to think he will win this race, given a clear crack at it, and the each way angle still provides a reasonable return if he only manages to finish second or third. Given that he is no spring chicken, he needs to find that bit extra to win, and the level of ‘luck’ required in these minimum trip sprints, it’s only half stakes for me today.
Why use your own money when you can bet with a bookie’s money? Below you will find a list of five bookmakers with fantastic sign up offers if you set up a new account with them. Certainly worth a look!
