I’m here tonight with some selections for a very good evening card at Uttoxeter on Wednesday. We are somewhat spoiled for choice here, with a total of eight races on the card, but I’ve found runners in three of those that are very intriguing to say the least. I have a cracker in the opener, who runs for for Chris Gordon and is reverting back to Hurdles off a very lenient mark. He could quite easily go under the radar in this race.
I also fancy a runner for Olly Murphy a little later on in the evening, where the step up in trip could make a big difference to his chances. But the one I really like runs in the Mares' Bumper, to hopefully cap off a good evening of racing.
Before we go on to my selections, it’s worth pointing out that we have an awesome card at Sandown coming up this weekend and I am going to have a Lucky 15 for you to get stuck into. So don’t forget to keep checking back in though, there’s plenty of winners to be between now and then.
For Wednesday's racing we have teamed up with Bet365 to bring you some free bets for an action-packed evening Jumps card. Just sign up, bet £10, and you’ll get £30 in free bets. A great way to make the most of your midweek racing.
In the opener at Uttoxeter there is one horse that I am quite intrigued to watch and that is Chris Gordon’s runner Sandy Brook. He is a very lightly-raced 9yo who reverts back to Hurdles here. He has had a few problems, but his last three runs have been over fences, where he struggled to get his act together. However, now that he is going back over Hurdles off a mark of just 95 I’m rather interested.
Of course, he does need to be fit and ready for his first start in 120 days but he did go very close over Hurdles off a mark of 115 and if he can get back to somewhere near that level then he could easily be in the mix here. Things do need to go right for this lad, but he is the sole runner for the Gordon team and I don’t think this race will take too much winning. So, make sure that you check the market, because at the right price, he is definitely worth a small punt.
In the Handicap Hurdle we have a really nice eight-runner race and Mr Bramley sets a good standard off top weight. He comes into this race in search of his third win and he has an obvious chance, despite giving weight all round. He travels nicely enough, does very little wrong and he should be on the premises once again. But I’m siding with Olly Murphy's gelding Damarta, who steps up to 2m 4f for the first time.
So far Damarta has only raced over two miles, winning on his penultimate start at Southwell, then backing it up by running a good race to finish third at Huntingdon, where he shaped as if the step up in trip would suit him. The fact he has had a nice break before this race makes me think he will be primed for a big run and fully fit for this engagement.
I really rate his chances up in trip, and the Olly Murphy team are enjoying a fine time of things at present. Damarta looks a nice horse to go forward with and has a good chance here.
The Mares’ Bumper is a race I am really looking forward to, and we have some lovely sorts in the lineup. I think Tom Weston has a very intriguing runner here called Barrabool, who is by Jack Hobbs. He ran a nice race on debut to finish just six lengths off La Marquise, who has since gone on to run and place in a Grade 2, which is a very nice form boost for Tom Weston’s charge.
But I have my sights set on another runner, which is Blue Las for Neil Mulholland. She showed plenty of gears when she won at Southwell and will have learned from that race too. She comes here having had two excellent starts and despite running under a penalty, she sets a very good standard. I think it will take a very good performance to beat her here, and she’s definitely one to keep a watch on for the future.
