Today’s betting tip runs in the opening race at Kempton, which is a 1m Apprentice Handicap. I think this horse can make it third time lucky over this C&D today.
If you are new to my content, I post four articles per week here. They are usually betting tips, but you’ll also see big race trends and antepost tips occasionally. If you look back through my previous articles, you’ll find antepost picks for the 2026 Cheltenham Festival and the 2026 Grand National. Meanwhile, make sure to tune back in tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, as I'll have more betting tips for you on all three days.
If you are looking to back Law Supreme, I would do so with bet365! At the time of writing, they have the best odds available at 13/2, and are paying 4 places. As well as great value on the bet, they have fantastic sign up offer too. If you bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. It’s a great way to make the most of my betting tips.
Ian Williams has seen a few of his horses bouncing back to form lately. He’s had five winners so far in May, and he has been unlucky not to have more, with a further 19 of his runners finishing either second, third or fourth this month. In this article, I’ll explain why I think Law Supreme can give Ian Williams win number six this month.
Law Supreme’s latest win came back in April 2024 at Bath. That victory came off a mark of 71 and he has also hit the frame off marks of 75, 75, 72 and 71 since.
Therefore, off a reduced mark of just 66, he must have an outstanding chance of adding another win to his record.
From December 2024 until earlier this month, Law Supreme was on a break. Both of his runs since returning have come over 1m at Kempton. His first run produced a superb fourth place, where he was denied by just 1.25 lengths, only weakening towards the finish. Straight back from a break, you can forgive him getting tired at the business end.
They sent him back to Kempton 14 days later, and again he was only beaten by two lengths. That was despite suffering interference, which I’ll come onto in the next section. He’s in great form, he’s evidently handicapped to be very competitive and he seems to love Kempton. So I’m very happy to see Ian Williams persevere with this C&D.
As touched upon, Law Supreme suffered interference last time out. He was travelling strongly into the race, and just as he was being asked for effort, the horses in front of him drifted into his path, squeezing him out.
After an incident like that, you’ll often see a horse lose all momentum and struggle to regain it. They typically drop back through the field and end up well beaten. I thought it was very eye-catching and promising that Law Supreme was able to regain his lost momentum quite quickly, and only get beaten by two lengths at the line. With a clear run, he would have gone very close that day, and I hope that will happen today!
Considering his form since returning from a break, the fact that form has come over this C&D and that he is running off an unaltered mark here, I find it hard to envisage Law Supreme being far away at the finish of today’s race. With Ryan Kavanagh in the saddle today, he is effectively racing off just 63 with Ryan’s 3lb claim taken into account, which will surely aid his cause.
To give the full picture, it is frustrating that he has been drawn out wide in Stall 10, which is far from ideal. That said, he showed great early speed to overcome being drawn in Stall 9 last time. There doesn’t look to be much pace on in this race either, so that will make his task of coming across from the wide draw much easier.
Given that Law Supreme has the wide draw to overcome, he should officially be racing off 1lb lower and this is an Apprentice Handicap (which can be quite unpredictable at times, given the limited experience of the jockeys involved), I’m restricting the bet to 0.5pt each way.
The list below contains a handful of our bookmaker partners and details the free bet offers that they currently have available. If you don’t already have an account with any of them, I would highly recommend that you take a closer look.
