For Day 2 of the York Ebor meeting, I have three each way selections for you to take a look at. The first of them runs in the Premier Stakes, and my fancy is way overpriced considering he improved run by run. In the Clipper Handicap the hot favourite has been described as “a Group horse running in Handicap company” but he will need a lot of luck in running. I’m going to take him on with a consistent sort who looks perfectly poised to back up his latest effort.
A bit later on I have a fancy in the Nursery Handicap, who represents the Karl Burke team, and he looks way overpriced to me. This is a race where a few horses have a bit to prove, but my selection has improved with every run, and he is sure to be on the premises in this race. All three look overpriced based on their credentials, and I think we have a great chance of taking some money off the bookies on Thursday.
BzeeBet has an offer that’s a little different from most that I show you. As a new sign up you can get a 100% matched deposit bonus, worth up to £100, plus 10 free spins on a top slot game.
In the Premier Stakes there is one notable mention, which is Maw Lam. She makes obvious appeal, and has some strong form over five furlongs, including a third over at Deauville at the beginning of this month. However, she is the short-priced favourite here, and the step up to six furlongs doesn’t look like an obvious move to me. I believe she has too much to prove over this longer trip.
That’s why I think it’s worth giving Territorial Knight a chance, on what is just his fourth start to date. He has improved for the experience in each of his three previous races, including a step up to six furlongs last time out. He was ridden from the front, and when joined by a challenger he found plenty for that pressure and showed a really good attitude to pull clear. He is clearly still improving, has plenty of speed and has already proven that he has sufficient stamina for six furlongs. The conditions here look ideal for him and he has the credentials to get heavily involved, so Territorial Knight gets my vote.
Next up is the Clipper Handicap, where we have a strong favourite, despite this being such a deep field. The horse I am referring to is Elnajmm, and it’s quite possible that William Haggas has a potential Group horse running in a Handicap here. He isn’t well-handicapped, and will need plenty of luck in running, but I can see that he is very appealing with such a progressive profile on his side. Meanwhile James McHenry is overpriced at 14/1 and still has scope for improvement, and Thunder Rock, who is owned by the race sponsors, could well improve with a decent ride here, having been turned over at 4/6 last time out.
But from a betting perspective it’s worth going each way on
New Image, who has been remarkably consistent and looks like an out-and-out miler to me.
He has run consistently well over seven furlongs, but the win we saw from him over the mile last time out just seemed to suit him perfectly. He is a strong finisher, and still looks sufficiently well-handicapped to take the honours here. He won comfortably enough last time for me to give him a big shout for this one.
My final selection for Day 2 comes in the Nursery Handicap, where there are plenty of progressive sorts. Age Of Gold, running for Godolphin, is the current favourite, having won on debut over six furlongs. He was then thrown in at the deep end at Ascot, where he was comprehensively put in his place by Bedtime Story. There was no shame in defeat, as the winner looks pretty special, but he is giving weight away to this field. Jayvee is an interesting contender for Brian Ellison. She also won on debut, but was easily beaten on her next two starts. Her last race was in Group company so dropping back to a Handicap might open a door for her.
The one that interests me the most here though is the Karl Burke-trained Qaseem, who is improving run for run. He looked very green during the first couple of races in his career, but he really knuckled down on his subsequent starts. He has plenty of pace, but also showed plenty of stamina late on when winning last time out. The step up to seven furlongs will not present him with a problem either and I am surprised he is as big as he is in the market in this company. He seems well-handicapped, the conditions are right for him and I’m sure he is being massively overlooked. Qaseem is a nice improver who is sure to go well for a top trainer.
