Racing fans, I have two very hot betting tips for Saturday! My NAP selection lines up in the Chapel Down Handicap at Ascot and I think he will take some beating. He is a consistent improver and the conditions look absolutely spot on for him.
Over at Haydock we have the Group 1 Betfair Sprint Stakes, the highlight race of the day. I seriously believe the market has the wrong favourite here. My pick might well run in the same colours, but considering he broke the course record at Newbury last time out, he is surely the better choice on form alone.
At prices of 4/1 and 9/2 respectively, I’ll be backing them as singles, but with a cheeky (small) punt on the double too.
This Handicap looks all set to be a great watch. French Duke is the current favourite, representing Roger Varian and Wathnan Racing. Although he is sure to prove popular with punters, this is a much tougher task for him. He won last time out, despite coming off the pace and being too keen early on, but he carries a 9lb penalty for that victory, and there are some very decent Stayers in this field.
I’m pretty certain that French Duke will find
Goodwood Odyssey
too good here. He is a really honest type, and his win at Goodwood last time out was seriously impressive. He did plenty wrong, but was able to get back on top during the closing stages.
Although he gets a 5 lb rise for that win, he has plenty of stamina, and tactics don’t faze him. He is just as happy being ridden prominently as he is held up. I think Goodwood Odyssey is the best horse in this field, he is my NAP bet of the day and he looks like a banker to me.
Over at Haydock my next best selection runs in the Group 1 Sprint Cup and the Kevin Ryan trained Inisherin heads the betting at 7/2. He was found out over a mile but when he was dropped back to 6 furlongs he seemed much more comfortable winning at Haaydock and here at Ascot but the form of those two races doesn’t actually appeal as much as they did initially. He did run well last time out at Newmarket in the July Cup but if he is to repeat that effort here he may find one too good.
I'm siding with Karl Burke’s Elite Status here. He has improved consistently and broke the course record on his latest start at Newbury, which must be the best piece of form in the field. He is a strong traveller and he has a wicked turn of foot too. Last time out was a career best, but I honestly think Elite Status has even more to come. He is a class horse, who holds extremely strong credentials in this line up and I think he fully deserves to take this Grade 1.
