We’re off to Worcester again this Thursday, where I have two selections with seriously strong credentials. We start off in the Handicap Hurdle over two miles where my fancy just can’t seem to stop improving, and looks handicapped to win.
My NAP bet of the day comes in the Maiden Hurdle and this looks like a great opportunity for my pick to get into the winner’s enclosure, as he already sets a very good standard based on previous ratings. I would be very disappointed if either of these two let us down on Thursday.
Looking ahead to Friday’s racing, I will be bringing you a Lucky 15 once again, and I already have my eyes on a few selections so be sure to come backto check those out.
I've spotted a great new customer offer from BetUK. Just a £10 deposit and bet, will see you get £30 in free bets. What's not to like about that deal?
My first selection for Thursday comes in the highly-competitive two mile Handicap Hurdle. Parikrama is sure to receive plenty of interest here, having won for the Flint team on her stable debut at Newton Abbot, and she did it in convincing fashion too. She beat Shinki who is a smart enough sort) by five lengths and despite being given a 7lb rise, she should be able to get competitive again. Midnight Jewel is another in this race with strong credentials, based on previous form, but he has been off for nearly 400 days and may well need the run.
My fancy here is the four-year-old Dog Fox, who is making his bid for the Greenall and Guerriero team. He is a strong traveller, which I like for Worcester, and he has improved with each of his five Hurdle starts to date. He won last time out at Bangor, where despite making some early mistakes, he warmed to the task and pulled clear after the final fence. I quite like novices who don’t get it right, but still manage to win, because it shows they have real potential, and this one is improving every time he runs.
This is quite a deep Handicap field, but off a mark of 107, I’m sure that Dog Fox still has plenty more to show us, and I feel he is being seriously underestimated here. He is one of the most unexposed horses in the race, is clearly a smart type, and provided his jumping is up to scratch, then he should be bang on at the line.
Next up, we have an interesting Maiden Hurdle and there are a few in the lineup with potential. R S Ambush, for Dr Newland, is the most obvious choice, and he was unlucky not to break his maiden on his penultimate start at Hexham. I definitely see him as the main danger to my selection here.
We also have some newcomers to the Hurdles division, and Cannock Park would hold some interest judging by his Flat form. He had a couple of wins over 1m 4f and trainer James Owen has done well with his new recruits when switching disciplines. He could certainly be worth a market check. One more to note might be Moab, for Henrietta Knight. Henrietta is still waiting for her first winner since getting her trainer’s licence back, and she is surely going to find a winner sooner or later. Moab is a nicely bred sort by Camelot, and another that could be worth keeping an eye on in the betting.
However, the one I fancy to get the job done is Ben Pauling's Fourtowns. He was very consistent last season, running to a pretty decent standard in every race. His best effort to date was his last run in April this year, where he finished third to Bective Abbey at Warwick. Frankly, he already has a mark of 106, and I don't think he would need to improve much on that performance to win this race. Ben Pauling excels with his younger horses, and this five-year-old gelding has plenty of scope for further progress. He is a solid traveller, a good jumper, and this is a great opportunity for him to get his head in front, and I don’t expect him to get beaten in this field. Fourtowns is my NAP bet of the day.
