Boxing Day Premier League Preview

Publish Date: 21/12/2022
Fact checked by: Mike McKean

Now that the World Cup is over, footy fans all over the nation will be looking forward to the resumption of the Premier League. It’ll hopefully offer some comfort following England’s hugely disappointing exit in the quarter finals. Plus all of the best bookmakers for betting on sports will be competing to put on the top odds for the following Boxing Day matches.

Brentford v Tottenham - 12:30

Can Harry Kane mend his broken heart over that penalty miss? Will Richarlison continue his excellent form from the World Cup? Will Son Heung-Min still be wearing his Batman facemask? Find out when Tottenham travel to Brentford to open up the Boxing Day action. Brentford’s Dane-heavy side should be nicely rested following Denmark’s less-than-exhilarating performance at the World Cup.

Crystal Palace v Fulham - 15:00

This intriguing London derby sees two teams who surprised many with their form preceding the World Cup break. Expect both Palace and Fulham to be at near full strength given that most of their squads had a nice break for the past month.

Everton v Wolves - 15:00

Everton and Wolves will be hoping that the World Cup break can help them reset their underwhelming seasons. Keep your eye on Conor Coady who’s sure to have an interesting reception from the travelling Wolves’ fans.

Leicester v Newcastle - 15:00

Both Leicester and Newcastle are teams who would have hoped that the World Cup break hadn’t interfered with their strong form. Expect the Foxes’ James Maddison to put in a fiery performance following his non-appearance for England in Qatar.

Southampton v Brighton - 15:00

Brighton will be welcoming back Alexis Macallister to their ranks following his World Cup triumph with Argentina. Southampton will simply be doing all they can not to slump further into the relegation zone.

Aston Villa v Liverpool - 17:30

This game probably won’t be a repeat of that 7-1 Villa win, but it should have a few interesting talking points. Will Mo Salah be back to his best following a month’s rest, and will Villa’s keeper Emiliano Martinez continue his referee-baiting tactics that helped win Argentina the World Cup?

Arsenal v West Ham 20:00

Arsenal are another team who will be hoping to continue the strong form from before the World Cup. The jury is still out on whether West Ham can get back to their best, but it’s sure to be another bitterly-fought London derby.

Premier League games beyond Boxing Day

Just like the best betting offers in the UK don’t last for one day, neither do the Premier League Boxing Day matches. Here are how the remainder of Christmas week’s games pan out:

Tuesday features Chelsea against Bournemouth which should give Morocco’s star player, Hakim Ziyech, some chance to show the Stamford Bridge faithful his true value. Later on, you can watch Manchester United experiencing life post Cristiano Ronaldo against Nottingham Forest.

Finally, Wednesday sees Leeds entertaining Manchester City. Perfect for seeing the greatest player not at the World Cup - Erling Haaland - getting back to his best.
