After the Carabao Cup took center stage last week, and another thrilling round of Premier League action, the English sides return to action around the continent with the Champions League.
Whilst Chelsea have an earlier kick-off time as they travel to Sweden, Liverpool and Manchester United have reverse fixtures against teams they beat 3-2 last time out. Here is our preview of the upcoming matches in the Champions League.
As previously mentioned, Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea continues the defense of their European crown with an early trip to Sweden on matchday four. The Blues are entering matchday four after a convincing victory over Newcastle in the Premier League this past weekend, and they could go top of Group H if results go their way this midweek.
Chelsea are the overwhelming favorites against the Swedish champions after defeating them 4-0 at Stamford Bridge a fortnight ago and that exact result to be repeated is 9/1 with STSBet. Thomas Tuchel’s side will still be without potent forward Romelu Lukaku and German forward Timo Werner but that shouldn’t affect the result of this one.
Chelsea to win is 2/9 with STSBet.
As for Malmo, they haven’t had the same fortune when playing in Europe. Despite their dominance in Sweden, Malmo have failed to translate that form in group H and they sit bottom - conceding eleven goals in the process. They are massive outsiders to pick up a result and the odds for them to be winning at half-time are a lengthy 11/1.
Unlike Chelsea, the reverse fixture in this encounter was far from comfortable. Atalanta and Manchester United fought to a thrilling 3-2 at Old Trafford a fortnight ago which left the ‘Red Devils’ top of Group H.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men travel to Italy after their improved performance over Tottenham Hotspur on the weekend. However, this confidence boost isn’t quite reflected in the odds - Manchester United to win is 6/4 with STSBet.
As for Atalanta, they will be out for revenge in this fixture after throwing away a 2-0 lead on their last trip to Manchester. They aren’t ‘odds on’ to win this encounter as they sit at 33/20 to secure the victory on home turf. However, one of the safer bets between these two is to expect goals. Both teams to score is 2/5 on STSBet.
The third English team in action is Liverpool as they take on the Spanish champions at Anfield. Much like Manchester United, Liverpool fought to a 3-2 victory against Atletico Madrid in their reverse fixture at the Wanda Metropolitano a fortnight ago.
Liverpool may have been held to a draw by Brighton at Anfield over the weekend, however, the odds reflect that Liverpool are still the favorites to remain top of group B and maintain their 100% record in Europe this season.
A Liverpool victory is 67/100 on STSBet.
Despite being defeated in the reverse fixture, Atletico Madrid are still a fierce opponent for anybody on a European night (ask any Liverpool fan who remembers being knocked out in 2020).
Diego Simeone’s side are 87/20 to get the victory away from home.
On paper, one of the easier games to predict, Manchester City will battle Club Brugge at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. The ‘Citizens’ are clear favorites and Guardiola’s side, despite defeat to Crystal Palace, are 2/15 to win again against Club Brugge.
The Belgian side have shown glimpses of quality in Europe this season but they are an unlikely 57/2.
