Chelsea's season is drifting into disaster territory, not for the first time in recent years. There is a toxic atmosphere surrounding the manager with a large portion of the supporters not having him.
The only salvation could come from the FA Cup but the prospect of a semi-final against Man City next weekend. Not exactly a golden opportunity to progress in the competition.
That being said, how much are they going to be putting into this Monday night game against Everton? That's the question we have to try and predict as the answer will determine how this game will look. That 'look' then can allow us to scour the markets and gives us our start point for identifying a value bet.
There can be little doubt that there is a greater motivation for Everton in this game to go harder into challenges, run that little bit longer and ultimately give that extra percent or two. Their relegation battle is still real and although the three points against Burnley were massive, Dyche won't have them rolling over here.
Everton have managed 12, 7, 10 and 23 shots in their last 4 games (all opponents outside the Top 4). It should be noted that the 23 came against Man United who have conceded that amount or more in almost every match over the last couple of months.
Our theory here is while there will be more fight from The Toffees than their hosts, they would still ultimately be happy with a point gained in West London. Chelsea will have the majority of the ball but won't be at full throttle. Everton will allow them the ball but will defend for their lives. Chelsea may well rest players too with the semi-final on the horizon.
The suggestions above all point to what we believe will end up a fairly tepid game without much flow for large parts. A game in which Everton won't have much in the way of time around the Chelsea goal.
It's rare a bookmaker allows the option of taking Unders in the shots market as they like to offer up the far more popular choice for recreational punters that is Overs. Bet365 however do allow us this luxury and we are going to back Under 12.5 Everton shots at 8/11. The bet would have landed in 3 of their last 4 matches. In all of those matches Everton would have been predicted to have more possession than they will have on Monday night.
Bookmaker: Bet365
Market: Team Shots
Selection: Under 12.5 Everton Shots
Odds: 8/11
Stake: 2pts
