Day 2 of the Cheltenham festival has been equally as magical as day 1, as we really have been treated to some incredible action. We recap the Cheltenham Festival Day 2 winners below.
It all started with a new superstar in the name of Bob Olinger, who absolutely bolted up in the Ballymore novices hurdle to become the first of the Cheltenham Festival Day 2 Winners. He was heavily supported in the market all morning, and my Ante Post Nap selection for the festival advised at 4/1 at the time of posting.
He has a huge career ahead of him and the question now is, does he go chasing, or does he remain over hurdles with a route towards the 2022 Champion hurdle. Very smart prospect overall.
Following this Monkfish stepped up and won the Brown Advisory Chase without needing to be at his best to do so. He really had to step at a few of the obstacles, but his engine proved far superior to his other graded rivals. Connections probably have eyes on the Gold Cup 2022 after that Cheltenham Festival Day 2 Winners display.
He has progressed all season, and even though he may have put in his poorest performance so far, he clearly has the profile to continue stepping up in distance on route to a very promising chasing career.
The Championship race of the day was remarkably won by another mare making it 2-0 to the girls so far. She really relished the jumping test, and travelled so well behind the leading bunch throughout. Her jumping was immaculate and she managed to avoid all of the hustle and bustle that was happening after the last to catch Chacun pour soi up the home straight.
Nube Negra was possibly the unlucky loser story of the race, meeting traffic whilst gaining lengths over the final half a furlong.
Tiger Roll got revenge on Easysland and regained his Cross Country Chase crown with an absolute demolition display. He took a lead and kicked for home with a field of class all struggling off the bridle a long way behind him. Its a shame that owner Michael O’leary has decided against letting him take his chance in the Grand National next month, but Tiger Roll owes racing fans nothing!
