Day 3 started with drama as the so called Cheltenham “Hotpot”, Envoi Allen ,crashed out early on in the Marsh Novices’ Chase, leaving the race wide open! Many people’s banker for the festival proved that there is no certainty in racing, bringing a a lot of surprises with the Cheltenham Festival Day 3 winners!
Chantry House was sent off the 9/1 second favourite and ran out an impressive winner in the end. He tracked the leaders throughout and raced wide to stay away from any unnecessary trouble. Even after a blunder at 3 out, he managed to put in a good leap at the last and stayed on gamely up the hill to beat stablemate Fusil Raffles by 3 lengths. It was nice to see Asterion Forlonge hit a bit of form and he ran on to finish third.
The star of the festival has no doubt been Rachael Blackmore, who has now rode 4 Grade 1’s at this year’s festival, following her demolition display on Allaho in the Ryanair. She rode from the front, and had the majority of the field struggling, turning for home. Rach gave Allaho a nudge, and he responded to pull clear up the hill to win easily by a 12 length margin ahead of a very classy field!
Flooring Porter came into the Stayers hurdle off the back of a wide margin victory last time out. A lot of people, myself included, didn’t necessarily believe the form he showed that day - but clearly he proved both myself, and his other doubters, wrong by romping home in the Stayers Hurdle! He won cosily in the end from Sire De Berlais and former champion Paisley Park.
It looked turning for home that the placed pair were coming to close the gap on the eventual winner, but he found an extra gear and nobody can doubt his ability now. He has a bright future ahead with a Championship race to his name at the age of just 6! Definitely the most impressive of the Cheltenham Festival Day 3 Winners!
That’s it for the Cheltenham Festival Day 3 Winners, but we still have one day left to go! With an exciting final day still to come, stay tuned for Ginger Joe’s cheltenham Day 4 tips here at Betting.co.uk!
