Conor Benn will return to the ring for the first time since beating Chris Eubank Jr on points in their rematch fight back in November. It is also the first time Benn will be fighting under the Zuffer Boxing banner, after he left Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing stable to join forces with the new company founded by UFC owner Dana White.
A lot of people in the boxing world feel that Been has been disloyal to the Hearn's after they supported him through his drug scandal. However, there are a lot of people who will not feel any sympathy that Hearn has lost a top talent.
You either like Benn or you don't. There is no in between. He seems to have a lot of support because of what his father - Nigel - did for British boxing, but a lot of boxing purists do not care for his attitude.
Saying that, Benn is a very good fighter, and I suppose he is just looking after his future by going where the money is in order to get the fights he thinks he deserves.
This is a difficult fight for both fighters. Prograis has been an amazing fighter and champion over the years. He has held the WBC light welterweight title and the WBA light welterweight belt, but he is now 37 years of age.
If he was the similar age to what Benn is (29) and fighting in his prime like Benn, then this would be a headline fight rather than on the undercard on yet another return for Tyson Fury. Unfortunately, Prograis is not the fighter he once was and I feel he is being used as a tune up fight for Benn with bigger things in mind.
Benn has a professional record of 25 fights, 24 wins and one defeat. That only loss was at the hands of Eubank Jr in their first fight in April 2025. After that performance, I was unsure if Benn had what it takes to be a real champion. However, his performance in the rematch proved to me he has what it takes.
Prograis has won 30 of his 33 fights with his two of his three fights coming in his last three bouts. His first ever defeat was back in 2019 when he lost to Josh Taylor in London. He then went undefeated for five fights before losing on points to Devin Haney. he then lost a fight for the vacant WBO International light welterweight title against Jack Catterall.
His last fight saw him end a two-fight losing streak when he won a unanimous decision against Joseph Diaz. Prograis has never been knocked out or stopped as a professional, so Benn could send out a huge statement by becoming the first fighter to do so.
Benn certainly has the punching power, but Prograis has no quit in him. I do think the latter is coming to the end of a glittering career and I think Benn will have too much for him. I expect this to go the distance, I don't think Benn can stop him. I am backing Benn to win on points after 12 rounds.
