For those of you that do not know, Charles Martin used to be heavyweight champion of the world. However, he has not been a big name in the world of boxing from the moment he lost that title in 2016.
Prince Charles Martin was seen as a dangerous heavyweight fighter when he started off. At the beginning of his boxing career he was knocking people out for fun. He started to move up the ranks and he eventually got a shot at the vacant IBF heavyweight title.
The IBF title became vacant after Tyson Fury refused to fight mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov in favour of a rematch against Wladimir Klitschko - a fight that didn't go ahead in the end, but Fury was still stripped of the title.
Glazkov was then ordered to fight Martin for the vacant belt on January 16 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Martin won the fight in the third round with Glazkov suffering an injury. The Ukrainian slipped trying to avoid a right hook from Martin. He tried to continue but was in too much pain and he had to retire hurt, giving the win and the belt to Martin.
Martin felt he had the world at his feet and was unstoppable. He decided against fighting Chris Arreola, Artur Szpiika and Dominic Breazeale. He decided his first title defence would be against Britain's Anthony Joshua - that was his biggest mistake.
Joshua was on the rise and he dismantled Martin. AJ sent Martin to the canvas in the second round and the American never recovered. He quickly got to his feet but was soon on the floor again and he failed to beat the count and his one and only title reign was over in a flash.
Martin continued to fight professionally, but the big fights were not coming. He was seen as a paper champion by a lot of critics and he could never make that step up. Since the Joshua fight, he has fought 10 times winning seven and losing three - but they were never big contests.
He last fought in 2024 in a first round KO win over Matthew McKinney and he thoroughly believes he is good enough for another title run at heavyweight.
He will take on 'The Silent Roller' in Efe Ajagba with the Nigerian only suffering one defeat and one draw in his 22 professional fights.
Ajagba has not really fought on the biggest stage yet. His last fight saw him face his biggest test when he took on Martin Bakole in Saudi Arabia last May.
This was the fight to see if he could match powerful heavyweights. The fight ended in a draw and the jury is still out on whether he can be real contender in the heavyweight division.
Will we see a genuine contender emerge in Ajagba or will Martin return to the big PPV fights and eventually get another title around his waist?
This is a difficult fight to bet on. I am well aware that Martin is not in his prime, but on his day he could punch hard. However, I do not know too much about Ajagba, but the bookmakers have him as an overwhelming favourite.
I have to go with my gut on this one. I am believing the Prince Charles hype again, and I hope he doesn't let me down. I am backing Martin to rediscover his top fighting form and defeat Ajagba on points. Maybe one day we will see Martin go from Prince to King.
