Let's get this right from the start. Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington do not like each other one bit.
Don't worry, the animosity between them will ensure this is a good and intense fight. They have faced off once before in 2023 when Wood was victorious with a seventh round stoppage in Sheffield.
This was a brutal contest with Warrington leading on the judges scorecards before the stoppage. Wood was deemed the winner and he retained his WBA featherweight title before vacating it 10 days later.
There is no belt on the line, but the hatred between the fighters still remains. Wood wants to knock Warrington out again to prove he is the better boxer, while Warrington will be gunning for revenge and prove to people that he is not a spent force in the ring just yet.
Wood will be the home fighter this time around with the fight taking place at the Nottingham Arena on February 21. The last fight was at the Sheffield Arena, and although Warrington is from Leeds, the majority of the support was for the Yorkshireman.
Wood has a professional record of 32 fights, 28 wins and four losses. His last fight ended in defeat when he challenged Anthony Cacace for his IBO super featherweight belt. It was a fierce bout, but Wood fell short as he was stopped in the ninth.
Warrington has fought twice since he lost to Wood. First, he took on Cacace - before Wood did - and he also failed to win the IBO super featherweight title as he lost a unanimous decision on points on September 21st.
He returned the ring in April 2025 where he won a unanimous decision against Asad Asif Khan. It was a comfortable win, but he did not look like the Josh Warrington of old. Hopefully, for Warrington and his army of fans, the rivalry with Wood will see him up his game and treat us all to a great fight.
I have to admit, I am a supporter of both of these fighters. I have followed their careers for years. Early on in his career, Warrington was the better fighter, he was a powerful puncher and I honestly thought he would win the first fight.
However, Wood has this fighting spirit that you cannot buy. He might look beaten and on his last legs, but somehow he keeps going and if you do knock him out, you know you have had to work hard for it.
I am going for another win for Wood in this one. I think he is the more hungrier fighter and he will knock out or just stop Warrington inside nine rounds.
