Moses Itauma will become the IBF World Heavyweight Champion if he manages to maintain his unbeaten professional boxing record when he takes on Filip Hrgovic at The O2 Arena on August 29.
Itauma has won every single fight since he made his debut back in January 2023. He defeated Marcel Bode with a first round knockout and immediately sent a message that he was a force to be reckoned with.
After that first round KO, he has since accumulated another 11 stoppages with only two fights going the distance. Those bouts were early in his career and were only six rounders.
The boxing world knew he had a bright future when he dismantled Mariusz Wach inside two rounds. He then went on destroy Dillian Whyte in under two minutes and his last fight actually lasted five rounds when he stopped Jermaine Franklin to set up this fight against Hrgovic.
This fight was originally scheduled to be a stepping stone for Itauma to move closer to a title shot. However, following Oleksandr Usyk's decision to vacate his WBC, WBA and IBF title belts, the decision has been made to make this an IBF title fight.
His opponent, Hrgovic, is no walkover. He is a former Bronze Medal Olympian and has won his last three fights. He fought for the interim version of this belt in 2024 where he was stopped in the eighth round by Daniel Dubois.
That loss to Dubois was his one and only defeat as a professional. Since then he has defeated Joe Joyce, David Adeleye and David Allen. He is a powerful puncher, but whether he can stand up to the power of Itauma remains to be seen.
Do not expect this fight to go the distance or be an instant classic. This will be over quite quickly. There is no way these big hitters will stand toe-to-toe for 12 rounds. I expect this to be over inside five rounds with Itauma standing over a prone Hrgovic.
Just because I think Itauma will dominate this fight, it does not mean I think it's a mis-match. Hrgovic is a tough bloke and deserves this shot, but there is something special about Itauma. He has the aura of a world champion and on Saturday I believe he will become one.
