Let’s get this out of the way right now. I am not sure if this is a good idea in terms of boxing. In the past, I have thought these fights have been a farce, but there is obviously interest them and because of the popularity of online boxing tips and odds, there is plenty of money to make.
It is reported that Anthony Joshua will make millions from this, well let’s be honest that is something Jake Paul is good at – putting eyes on his shows and dollars in his pocket.
Jake Paul made his name as You Tuber and then moved into the boxing world. Many people felt he was disrespectful trying his hand in the ring and calling out fighters.
To be fair, he can box and he has some punching power. He has a professional record of 13 fights, 12 wins and one loss with seven wins coming by way of knockout.
OK, some of his wins were against AnEsonGib, Nate Robinson, Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley – not notable boxers themselves. He has earned wins over Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz, Mike Tyson and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. His only defeat was against Tommy Fury.
Now, the sensible part of my brain thinks that if Jake Paul cannot beat Tommy Fury, then he stands no chance against a former world heavyweight champion in Anthony Joshua.
Joshua burst onto the scene after the 2012 London Olympics where he won a Gold medal and became a nation’s hero.
He won Commonwealth, International and British heavyweight titles before claiming his world championship belt when he knocked out Charles Martin in two rounds to win the IBF heavyweight title.
He then went on to claim the WBA (Super) and IBO heavyweight titles with an 11th round stoppage victory over Wladimir Klitschko.
After three successful title defences, in which he added the WBO belt after beating Joseph Parker, he lost them all in a shock loss to Andy Ruiz in New York in 2019.
He wrestled them back by the end of 2019 but lost them again when he was beaten on points by Oleksandr Usyk. Another defeat by Usyk saw many critics feel Joshua’s time was.
He then won three consecutive fights against Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou, but a nasty knockout loss by Daniel Dubois saw AJ’s career in tatters. His chance at a big fight with Tyson Fury looked to be over, so he is now facing a You Tuber instead.
For the good of humanity and the world of boxing, I really hope this is a genuine fight and not a money-making scheme to make Jake Paul seem likeable.
Anthony Joshua should have no problems in knocking out Jake Paul. Surely, his punching power will be too much for him. Unfortunately, with boxing nowadays I am not sure what is real and what is not.
I will put it out there that I think AJ will destroy Paul, but I would not be surprised if somehow Paul got the win. He is a good fighter, but only time will tell if he can beat Joshua in a real boxing fight.
I am backing AJ to knock out Paul inside five rounds. If he doesn’t do that, I will be questioning whether this is real or not.
For this boxing betting tip, I am going with my boxing knowledge and what should happen – whether it does is another matter entirely.
Anthony Joshua has stopped the likes of Ngannou, Kubrat Pulev, Alexander Povetkin, Klitschko, Eric Molina, Charles Martin and Dillian Whyte. Surely he doesn’t need to get out of second gear to beat someone like Jake Paul.
I suppose that is the point. If Joshua does not take it seriously and assumes he is going to walk through Paul like his past opponents, it could come and bite him – like the first fioght with Andy Ruiz Jr.
It’s a no-win situation for Joshua. If he wins we will all say he should be beating a You Tuber, if he loses he might be richer, but his career as a credible fighter will be over.
I am backing Joshua to show some fight and knock Paul out inside five rounds. This fight should not be going the distance.
