Irishman Conor McGregor will make his return to the Octagon on July 11 for the first time since 2021 and will do battle with Max Holloway for the second time when they do battle in Las Vegas.
We last saw McGregor in a UFC Octagon when he suffered a horrific leg injury in his first round defeat to Dustin Poirier, although he did act as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter series, this will be his first time back fighting.
McGregor was once the biggest name in UFC, but his absence from the sport and his constant ramblings on Social Media might see him portrayed as the fans favourite any more.
His return is big news though. There will be a lot of medial interest and betting on this bout. Can McGregor return to the top? Or can Holloway avenge his 2013 defeat.
Yes, these two have met before. It was McGregor's second fight in the UFC - before he was a champion - and he claimed a unanimous points decision after three rounds.
They are both completely different fighters and personalities now. McGregor is a former UFC champion and the first fighter to hold belts in two weight classes at the same time. He held the UFC Featherweight and Lightweight titles at the same time thanks to wins over Jose Aldo and Eddie Alvarez.
McGregor has a professional record of 28 fights, 22 wins and six defeats. His last fight was in 2021, but his current form reads that he has lost four of his last seven fights. Two of them were against Poirier, while he also lost to Khabib and Nate Diaz.
Holloway is no stranger to big fights. He became the interim UFC Featherweight champion in 2016 when he defeated Anthony Pettis by TKO. He then claimed the full belt with a TKO win over Jose Aldo in Brazil in 2017.
He made three successful title defences against Aldo, Brian Ortega and Frankie Edgar before dropping the strap to Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 245. He has failed to claim any more real gold but did win the symbolic 'BMF' belt with a win over Justin Gaethje. He has lost nine fights in his career, with five of them with genuine UFC titles on the line.
McGregor might have lost the love of a lot of supporters - not me by the way - but they will all tune in. They might just watch the fight to see him get humbled yet again, but there is something about McGregor when the spotlight is purely on him.
It is difficult to look past McGregor due to his experience, but Holloway is a proud man and he will not want to be any one's whipping boy or part of a publicity stunt. He will want to hurt McGregor and do it in style.
I do not see that. We see the best of McGregor when the world doubts him. It will be five years and one day since his last fight when he walks out in Las Vegas. All eyes will be on him and I am backing him to win the bout and do it before it goes to a decision.
