ESL One Malaysia is the after-party that comes following the PGL Major Arlington, which is about to commence within a couple of days. While it doesn’t offer as lucrative a prize pool as the Riyadh Masters did and doesn’t give DPC points to the teams, it does bring betting on Dota 2 and many opportunities for fans and bettors to enjoy and make money on the game they love.

After taking the lead in their respective groups in the Riyadh Masters and earning their spot in the semi-finals, both OG and Team Secret proved that consistency and adaptability are among the most important qualities that any Dota 2 team must have if they want to succeed.
Let’s take a look at these teams and see how they’re faring so far compared to their peers.
OG has quite improved their resume during the first half of this year. In late May, they won the first 2022 Dota 2 Major, the ESL One Stockholm, where they showed a dominant performance and pretty much solidified the still relatively young roster’s relevance for many seasons to come.
They’re consistent, and even though they didn’t win the Riyadh Masters, they’ve just reminded the other elite Dota 2 teams in the world that OG’s era didn’t end when the old roster lifted the Aegis of the Immortal twice in a row. We saw this by looking at the top Dota betting sites and taking notes of the odds while the most recent LAN international event was happening.
OG already have their eyes set on a much larger, grander slice of pie. At the time of writing, they’re among the 4 teams who have already secured their slot at The International 11. That tells a lot about what this team is really capable of.
Team Secret have been way behind everybody else when it comes to DPC points collected, and the only chance they have in getting to The International 2022 is through the Regional Qualifiers. This doesn’t mean, however, that they aren’t likely to win the ESL One Malaysia 2022. Not after they rallied in the Riyadh Masters, where they even beat Tundra Esports and PSG.LGD, the tournament champions, 2-0.
The only recent news for Team Secret is that they’ve taken in new members recently, including Remco “Crystallis” Arets (Hard Carry) and Baqyt “Zayac” Emiljanov (Soft Support). Roster changes are a little bit more common for Team Secret than other teams, but it seems like this change in particular is different in a way that it shows promise.
Top Dota 2 betting sites, such as the one covered in our Bet365 Esports review, didn’t originally think much of Secret at the onset of the Riyadh Masters, which was perfectly reasonable. This is why those underdog bettors made some decent money backing them before they started winning games.
On the other hand, we have the underdog of the tournament. There aren’t a lot of them, but you better keep an eye out. Betting on Dota 2 has never been boring for those underdog bettors living on the edge and putting their money where their mouth is.
Earlier this year, you would find Entity fighting in WEU Division 2, which means that not so long ago, with the best betting offers UK in effect, you could have won a million dollars by betting on this team in a match against one of the elites they’re about to face in ESL One Malaysia.
Now, that’s an exaggeration, but we’re still pretty sure you could win a hefty amount once Alliance faces the favourites in the tournament. They’re a team that oscillates between Upper Division and Lower Division, and for a long time now they haven’t really had a solid win in their book.
They have some time to replace one of their players before the ESL One Malaysia begins, and this is the variable change bettors are hoping to capitalise on. It’s a long shot, and Alliance have a long way to go to regain the community’s trust. But who knows what a subtle roster change can do?
Of course, there are others worth considering outside of what we’ve mentioned. Nigma Galaxy, for instance, is another WEU team that’s been snowballing recently. Meanwhile, TSM, Thunder Awaken, BOOM Esports, and Team Aster are their regions’ champions for a reason.
Chances are, against one another, the odds will be flat and boring for the favourites, at least until mistakes are made or great plays are executed and the odds start shifting towards one party.
