Jack Coop’s fourth goal of the game gave Prestwich Heys a dramatic 4-3 win over Ashton Athletic at Brocstedes Park.
The striker’s first half hat-trick had put Matt Barnes’s side 3-1 up at the break, with Lewis Boyd on the scoresheet for the home side.
Athletic fought back to 3-3 through Josh Nicholson and Ethan Beckford, but Coop hadn’t finished for the day, and his 93rd minute winner gave Heys a priceless victory.
The three points sees Prestwich pull four points clear of their opponents, and up into 16th place. Ashton are still in the relegation places in 20th place on goal difference.
Irlam’s rapid rise up the tables after a fifth consecutive win with a 3-1 away victory at Longridge Town.
The Silver Street side are now up to sixth place following their up turn in form.
Goals from Ethan Cartwright, Liam Pollitt and Andrew Langford put the visitors firmly in charge early on, with all three goals coming in the first 21 minutes.
Jack Anderton hit what turned out to be a consolation five minutes before half time.
Elsewhere, Wythenshawe Town rescued a late point at Skelmersdale United in a 2-2 draw. Brad Byrne scored both his side’s goals, including a 94th minute penalty.
Atherton Laburnum Rovers picked up an overdue win by the odd goal in a 4-3 result at AFC Darwen.
Goals from Josh Abbott, George Chadwick and Luke Nicholls saw Rovers 3-2 up at half time.
Ryan Steele equalised for the home side before the hour, but Freddie Stevens proved to have the last say and secured a win for Atherton.
Today’s victory was Warren Jones’ side’s first in seven attempts, and the side are 13th in the table.
Jack Worrall’s second half equaliser against Campion gave Chadderton a third successive draw in the league.
Elsewhere, Andy Welsh’s Bury AFC side were held to a goalless draw at Garstang and Daisy Hill drew 1-1 with Bacup Borough.
West Didsbury & Chorlton maintained control of the South division and ended Abbey Hey’s unbeaten run in a 2-1 away victory.
Chris Rowley’s side remain a point clear at the top, with goals from Liam Delaney and betting.co.uk’s NWC Player of the Month for August, Sam Heathcote, securing a vital three points.
The Gorton-based side had won eight consecutive league games before today, and looked set to extend that run after going in at half time in front through Dylan Fitzgerald.
Delaney and Heathcote had other ideas however.
New Mills have a game in hand on West Didsbury, and are still only a point behind after picking up a routine 3-0 win at home to Eccleshall.
Both sides remain undefeated and the teams to beat if anyone else is to have a say at this stage of the season.
Two goals from Kyle Oakes and one from Elliot Cooke wrapped up the three points today.
Wythenshawe Amateurs took full advantage of Abbey Hey’s defeat, moving above them into third in the table after destroying Alsager Town 6-0.
The side’s home victory came courtesy of double strikes from Saul Henderson and Edward Brown, with Louis White and Dylan Walker popping up with one each.
Shane Goldrick’s side have only lost once this season against early pacesetters New Mills.
Cheadle Town took an impressive 3-0 home win over Stafford Town. Liam Moran and Joe Collins were on the scoresheet, with Stafford gifting their rivals an own goal.
Maine Road picked up a priceless 3-2 win over Ellesmere Rangers.
Things weren’t so positive for Cheadle Heath Nomads, who lost 3-1 at Abbey Hulton United. Stockport Town also lost, 3-2 at home to FC Isle of Man.
