Nathan Joyes has highlighted five of the biggest odds changes in today's football betting markets that have caught his attention. Let’s assess five games being played this weekend and identify where there could be value in the new
betting prices.
Brentford vs Sunderland
The Bees will look to continue their good early form when Sunderland make the long trip south this Saturday. After hammering Spurs 3-0 in their first home match, Brentford were fairly unfortunate not to beat Leeds at Elland Road.
Despite 22 shots and dominating ball possession, they were unable to hold onto their lead yet still came away with a point. Sunderland, on the other hand, started their campaign with a last-minute defeat against Premier League new boys Ipswich.
The Black Cats redeemed themselves with a scrappy 1-0 win over Fulham, but punters clearly weren’t impressed with that performance and are siding with Brentford to make it two from two in front of their supporters.
Their win - and performances - vs Spurs was rather impressive, which is why the Bees have been backed to return to winning ways.
Odds: Brentford to win was 4/6 now 4/7
Everton vs Man United
Despite Everton beating Crystal Palace 2-0 and drawing on the road against Bournemouth, punters are siding with their next opponents to pick up all three points.
Manchester United have been backed in from 13/10 into 11/10 to win back-to-back Premier League matches after hammering Ipswich 5-2 at Old Trafford last weekend.
Despite losing 2-0 against Hull on the opening day of the season, bettors clearly believe the Red Devils are set to improve under Michael Carrick, and that performance vs Ipswich was a true reflection on what the Red Devils can do.
Everton, who beat Crystal Palace in front of their own supporters, did require a last gasp equaliser from James Tarkowski to collect a valuable point against Bournemouth - a result that clearly punters believe should not have been won.
And while Man United have conceded four in their opening two matches, Bruno Fernandes’ hattrick at Old Trafford has been enough to convince bettors that they can replicate the same result this weekend.
Odds: Man United to win was 13/10 now 11/10
Accrington vs Crawley
In League Two, Accrington have yet to register a win after four matches, yet punters believe they are in a false position and are keen to get them on side vs Crawley at home.
Having opened at 15/13, they are now as short as 10/11. Accrington have been much better at home than on their travels, drawing both matches to date 2-2 vs Colchester and Grimsby.
Crawley beat Rochdale on the road 2-1, before drawing 1-1 with Northampton, but it’s important to point out that the Cobblers had 10 men for 35 minutes and were unable to hold onto their lead.
Having scored just three goals in their opening four matches, punters clearly believe Accrington can continue to score at home and two goals could be enough, making it third time lucky in front of their fans. A win looks sooner rather than later.
Odds: Acrington to win was 15/13 now 10/11
QPR vs Middlesbrough
Over in the Championship, Middlesbrough have been drifting all week and are now odds-against to win in the capital. Despite home wins vs Lincoln and West Brom, Middlesbrough have yet to get going on the road, losing 2-1 against Blackburn before drawing with a Burnley side that doesn’t appear to look too threatening.
QPR are unbeaten and have won three of their four matches, scoring seven goals while conceding just three. After a disappointing opening day 0-0 draw with Bolton, that saw them have 18 shots compared to their opponents two, the Rs bounced back with a 2-1 win vs Cardiff - once again looking lively in the final third with 20 shots.
The hosts have lost their last three matches against Middlesbrough but this could be a turning point for them, and punters are keen to take on the visitors who have made a shaky start to the new campaign.
Odds: QPR to win was 5/2 now 47/20
Malaga vs Levante
Over in Spain, Malaga are not enjoying their return to La Liga, picking up just one point from a possible nine. To make matters worse, they have only scored one goal while conceding seven, and punters haven’t been convinced that their form is going to change any time soon.
They did draw their sole home match to date, but that came against Deportivo de A Coruna, rescuing a point thanks to Chupe converting a penalty. And so with no goal scored from open play, it’s not looking good on their return to the top flight.
Up next: Levante. Despite losing their first away match of the season 3-0 vs Espanyol, they have bounced back with a positive draw vs Osasuna before hammering Real Betis 5-2 at home.
With one team struggling to create and the other finding their feet after a poor first round, there’s no surprise to see bettors backing Levante, who have moved from 2/1 into 7/4 to record back-to-back victories.
