There are nine Bundesliga matches taking place across the weekend schedule, with games spread from Friday, 16 January through to Sunday, 18 January. Bundesliga tipster Ben Smith has shared his selections for the round, with each pick paired with the best available Bundesliga betting odds.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s last two games have produced five and six goals respectively. Both matches saw several lead changes, yet they came away with just one point from the two fixtures.
Seven of their nine away league games this season have gone over 3.5 goals, which makes that angle hard to ignore at the prices. Werder Bremen have also conceded 23 goals in seven matches against teams in the top eight, so they look like the ideal dance partner for another high-scoring contest here.
Betting Tip: Over 3.5 Goals - 31/20 BetMGM
Hoffenheim and Leverkusen rank joint third for goals scored in the Bundesliga this season, but neither side is especially secure defensively. That is particularly true of Leverkusen, who were beaten 4-1 by Stuttgart last time out.
Over 3.5 goals is a fairly obvious angle, but it still appeals. It has landed in six of Hoffenheim’s eight home matches, as well as four of the visitors’ seven away games.
Betting Tip: Over 3.5 Goals - 6/5 Coral
Wins have been hard to come by for Mainz on the road. Their only away victory came at Augsburg early in the season and, aside from an unlikely point at Bayern Munich, there has been little to show from their travels since.
Köln, meanwhile, have struggled to get over the line regardless of venue. With neither side showing much edge in these situations, a draw looks a reasonable outcome here.
Betting Tip: Draw - 13/5 Coral
Borussia Mönchengladbach have faced five matches against teams in the bottom five this season and kept clean sheets in all of them. Four of those games ended in wins to nil, and they were good value for each of them, coming out on top in the expected goals battle on every occasion.
At the prices, it is worth taking the chance on a similar game playing out again here.
Betting Tip: Gladbach to Win to Nil - 17/4 QuinnBet
Wolfsburg have pushed themselves into top-half contention after taking three wins from five. That run did include an 8-1 defeat at Bayern Munich, but results against the defending champions should not define Daniel Bauer’s side.
They have generally handled lower-ranked opponents well, even if a late penalty was needed to get past St Pauli in midweek. Heidenheim may struggle to lift themselves for another away trip after losing on the road in midweek, while Wolfsburg’s home form could be an important factor here.
Betting Tip: Wolfsburg to Win - 73/100 10bet
Dortmund limited Werder Bremen to just six shots in a routine 3-0 home win on Tuesday night, a result that kept them within single-digit points of leaders Bayern.
Niko Kovac’s side have drawn at home with fellow top four contenders RB Leipzig and Stuttgart, but they have won every other league match at Signal Iduna Park to nil. Home fixtures against teams outside the top eight have been especially comfortable, with Dortmund allowing very little in the way of chances. It is difficult to see where St Pauli find a way into this game.
Betting Tip: Dortmund to Win to Nil - 11/10 Betway
The standout game of the weekend sees third face first, with RB Leipzig looking for payback after being beaten 6-0 by Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena earlier in the season.
That scoreline overstated Bayern’s dominance when judged on expected goals, but players like Harry Kane, who scored a hat-trick that day, have a habit of rendering those numbers irrelevant. Bayern continue to look relentless right now and are setting a level few sides can live with. Even RB Leipzig may struggle to find solutions against a team in this sort of form.
Betting Tip: Bayern Munich -1 Asian Handicap - 9/10 10bet
Union Berlin have shown signs of improvement, but this is a tougher test against a dependable Stuttgart side. Their only failure to win in the last five matches in all competitions came against Hoffenheim, a game they largely controlled but could not turn into three points.
Stuttgart have yet to drop a point at home against teams outside the top five, and it is hard to see that record changing this weekend.
Betting Tip: Stuttgart -0.75 Asian Handicap - 22/25 BetMGM
Augsburg have failed to score in each of their last three matches, pointing to problems in attack both before and after the winter break.
Freiburg arrive in steadier form and look well placed to take advantage of those issues on Sunday afternoon.
Betting Tip: Freiburg to Win - 31/20 10bet
