There are nine Bundesliga matches taking place across the weekend schedule, with games spread from Friday, 23 January through to Sunday, 25 January. Bundesliga tipster Ben Smith has shared his selections for the round, with each pick matched with the best available Bundesliga betting odds.
The Hamburg derby kicks off the Bundesliga weekend, with St Pauli looking to climb out of the drop zone and potentially pull their local rivals into the relegation fight.
They beat Hamburg at the Volksparkstadion earlier in the season, and they’ve also been solid against teams around them, taking 10 points from four matches against fellow bottom-four sides.
Hamburg, on the other hand, have been poor on the road, scoring just four goals and picking up only two points from eight away games.
With that in mind, I’d rather side with the home team here.
Betting Tip: St Pauli Draw No Bet - 3/4 Coral
RB Leipzig have lost three of their last four and could do with a confidence boost. A trip to Heidenheim might be ideal, as they’ve won six from six against sides in the bottom seven, conceding just one goal in the process.
Heidenheim, meanwhile, have lost six from six against top-six teams, scoring only once. RB Leipzig to win to nil looks very appealing at the prices.
Betting Tip: RB Leipzig to Win to Nil - 11/5 10bet
Bayer Leverkusen’s defeat at Olympiacos on Tuesday means there’s still work to do against Villarreal next week if they want to secure a place in the Champions League play-offs.
They’ve also lost ground in the race to qualify for next season’s Champions League, so they need a result here to steady the ship. They should have enough to get it, and can take advantage of Werder Bremen’s poor defensive record to rack up the goals.
Betting Tip: Leverkusen to Win & Over 2.5 Goals - Evens QuickBet
An early red card gave Dortmund no chance on their trip to Tottenham in midweek, but they’re still in decent shape in the league, with just one defeat so far this season.
Both Teams To Score has landed in all of their away matches against top-half teams, while Union Berlin’s home games against the top sides have invariably been high-scoring.
BTTS looks a very fair price here.
Betting Tip: Both Teams to Score - 31/40 Betway
Freiburg’s home form has been impressive since their opening-day loss to Augsburg. They’ve since picked up four wins from seven at the Europa-Park Stadion, with the other three all ending in draws against teams in the top seven.
Köln snapped an eight-game winless run with a home win over Mainz last week, but they still look unconvincing on the road, so I’m happy to take the hosts.
Betting Tip: Freiburg to Win - 19/20 Coral
Augsburg haven’t managed to hold out for long when facing elite opposition in the Bundesliga. They’ve been behind at half-time in all five fixtures against top-five sides so far.
When Bayern have won the first half, they’ve gone on to win the second half in eight of their 11 matches. They look a good shout to win both halves here.
Betting Tip: Bayern Munich to Win Both Halves - 10/13 10bet
Mainz have the worst home record in the Bundesliga in terms of both points accrued and goals scored.
Wolfsburg do concede more than two goals per game on average, though, so this could be the match-up Mainz need.
The visitors have scored in all of their away games except for their trip to Dortmund. A draw looks a reasonable price here.
Betting Tip: Draw - 13/5 Coral
The 3-2 defeat at Qarabag in midweek was typical Eintracht Frankfurt. They can’t help but get dragged into shootouts.
In the 10 Bundesliga matches they’ve played against teams ranked in the top 11, they’ve shipped 32 goals. They’ve conceded two or more in nine of those, and three or more in eight.
An attacking unit like Hoffenheim’s should have a field day and oblige at least twice.
Betting Tip: Over 1.5 Hoffenheim Goals - 10/11 Coral
Stuttgart’s fearless approach away from home has produced plenty of goals, lots of entertainment, and only one draw, the thrilling 3-3 at Dortmund. They play to win, and that often eliminates the draw from the equation.
Having thumped Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen on the road in recent weeks, they clearly have the tools to go and beat Borussia Mönchengladbach, who have suffered some heavy home defeats this term.
Betting Tip: Stuttgart to Win - 13/10 Betway
