After the sacking of Nuno Espírito Santo, West Ham has appointed Scott Parker as their new head coach. Parker has an excellent record in the Championship, securing promotion from the division on three different occasions. Louie Truman discusses West Ham's current campaign and the latest odds on the Hammers gaining promotion.
West Ham supporters would have expected their side to be in the promotion talk right from the start as they aim to secure promotion back to the Premier League. However, West Ham has struggled to find consistency in their opening 13 matches. The Hammers managed to keep key players like Jarrod Bowen, and they signed Manor Solomon and Joel Veltman, so expectations would have been high heading into the season.
The Hammers have won just six games and currently sit eighth in the table. West Ham have lost their last two against Southampton and West Brom. Saturday's 3-1 loss against West Brom proved to be Nuno's final match as head coach, with the club deciding to make a managerial change. We're only 13 games into the Championship season, so supporters will hope new manager Scott Parker can improve their current form.
Scott Parker has an excellent record in the Championship, securing promotion to the Premier League with Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley. Parker will be hoping to achieve the same with West Ham this season.
His most recent promotion came with Burnley during the 2024/25 campaign, when the Clarets finished on 100 points. Parker's side were particularly impressive defensively, conceding just 16 goals in 46 league matches. When looking at Scott Parker's win rate in the Championship, he managed to win 78 of his 141 matches, with 42 draws and just 21 losses.
The Hammers have plenty of quality within the squad, so Scott Parker has time to improve their results and get them back into the automatic promotion places.
I think Scott Parker is the right man to get West Ham's season back on track. The Hammers have been disappointing so far, but I still believe they have one of the strongest squads in the Championship. With players such as Jarrod Bowen available, there is no reason why they shouldn't be competing near the top.
Their home form has been a particular concern, and Parker will need to turn the London Stadium into a difficult place for visiting teams. I also think he will be able to improve their defensive record, which has been one of their biggest problems this season. I expect West Ham to improve under their new manager, and I still fancy them winning the league despite their slow start.
West Ham remain among the favourites to secure promotion back to the Premier League, despite their disappointing start to the season. The Hammers are priced at 3/1 with BetMGM to win the Championship title, having drifted from 6/4 following their recent losses against Southampton and West Brom.
I think West Ham are worth considering at 3/1, particularly following Scott Parker's appointment. The Hammers have fallen behind Middlesbrough, but there is still a long way to go. Parker has already shown that he can get results in the Championship, and I expect him to make a positive impact at the London Stadium.
West Ham were my selection to win the Championship before the season started, and I haven't changed my opinion. Their recent performances have been disappointing, but I still believe they have enough quality to challenge for the title. At 3/1 with BetMGM, I think the Hammers are worth backing to win the league.
