Harry Kane’s price has come in significantly with Bet365 to be the Champions League top scorer. The Bayern Munich hitman, who is leading the charts with four to his name this term, has had his odds shortened to 4/1.
Before the start of the campaign, Kane was available at 7/1, but he has now moved level with Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland, a two-time winner in the latest odds (also 4/1). Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe, who was installed at 7/2 before the competition got underway, has seen his odds drift to 11/2.
In two of the previous three seasons, Mbappe has been crowned as the Champions League top scorer. His 15-goal haul last term was exceptional, and Kane missed out by a solitary strike.
Kane, who has plundered 58 career Champions League goals, has hit the ground running again this term, and he’s currently in a six-way tie at the top of the scoring charts. Having never finished as the top marksman in Europe’s elite competition before, he will be hoping to knock Mbappe (three goals and counting), who is now coached by the more defensive-minded Jose Mourinho, off his perch.
In finding the target against Arsenal during Bayern’s 2-2 draw in midweek, Kane stretched his incredible scoring run to 10 consecutive Champions League games dating to January 2026. He became just the second player to achieve that feat, overtaking Ruud van Nistelrooy and Robert Lewandowski (both nine) in the process.
It also put him within touching distance of Cristiano Ronaldo’s incredible record of scoring in 11 successive games, something he achieved during the 2017/18 campaign when at Real Madrid.
Ronaldo’s run began in the 2017 Final against Juventus, where he popped up with a double, which was followed by scoring in all six group matches and then Real’s Last 16 and quarter-final ties against PSG and Juventus respectively. Although Kane is hot on Ronaldo’s heels in that respect, the Portuguese legend’s overall Champions League tally of 141 goals will take some beating.
It’s not long to go until the Ballon d’Or, with the ceremony taking place on Monday in London. Kane is comfortably the betting favourite to win the Ballon d’Or, trading at a very short 1/3 with Bet365, putting him ahead of Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal (3/1) and Mbappe (8/1).
Kane is aiming to become the first English winner of the coveted individual accolade since Michael Owen walked away with the prize in 2001. Should he do so, he would become the fifth English winner overall, following in the footsteps of Sir Bobby Charlton, Stanley Matthews, and the late Kevin Keegan, who did it back-to-back with Hamburg in 1978 and 1979.
Under Vincent Kompany, Kane enjoyed a stunning season last term for Bayern, bagging 61 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions, guiding the Bundesliga giants to a treble. And Kompany believes Kane would merit being the Ballon d’Or winner.
He said:
“Now that the voting is over, I don’t have to hide or be diplomatic. What made Harry happy the most in recent years is that he finally won his first team trophies here. Now if he can crown his career or his season with the Ballon d’Or, that would be deserved for the way he plays for the team.”
