Chelsea the real deal?

Chelsea's unbeaten run extended to five after a comfortable 2-0 win against Burnley at the weekend. And while their recent form has been strong, beating Wolves (twice) and their most recent opponents won't have Barcelona worried.

Their 2-2 draw in Azerbaijan against surprise package Qarabag proved that - despite progress this season - there's still work to be done if Chelsea are to win silverware this season.

At home, however, Chelsea have beaten Jose Mourinho's Benfica before battering Ajax 5-1, and they are only beating what is in front of them at the moment.

Barcelona will be their biggest test of the season to date - and it will be an indication as to where they are and what can potentially be achieved this season.

Barcelona scoring for fun

Barcelona head to London on the back of a 4-0 win against Athletic Bilbao. That followed a 4-2 win against Celta Vigo having previously been held 3-3 in the Champions League away to Club Brugge.

Hansi Flick's side certainly know where the back of the net is but they have also shown plenty of defensive issues - especially in this competition.

The German's insistence on playing with a high back line can certainly benefit Barcelona when dominating the ball - but has proved costly when out of possession and hit on the counter.

However, once again Lamine Yamal and his brilliance will take centre stage at Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea have their own magician with Estevao - no doubt a comparison we will be talking about for years.

This fixture has served up some classics over the years - especially at the Bridge. These sides haven't met since 2018 in London, sharing a 1-1 draw thanks to goals from Willian and Lionel Messi.

The two sides have met six times at Stamford Bridge since 2000, with Barcelona only winning once back in 2006, a controversial win to say the least that is still spoken about to this day.

Goals galore at the Bridge

For those looking to work out the puzzle, both Chelsea (11/8 with Betfred) and Barcelona (17/10 with Betano) are great odds if you can predict who's going to edge this one.

But a safer, more realistic bet looks to be the goals angle. Barcelona's four Champions League matches have all produced over 2.5 goals, while two have produced over 5.5.

Against European's finest, they have struggled to cope with their usual style of play. Pressing high has been a risky strategy that Flick doesn't want to shy away from.

Club Brugge punished them in the last round, scoring three times before having a last minute winner chalked off. Under pressure, Barcelona have, on occasion, looked a little fragile.

But at the other end of the pitch, there's simply no stopping Yamal, Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres - all arriving in top form. Chelsea will do well to keep them quiet.

Yet Chelsea will have the confidence to take the game to Barcelona. Three of their four Champions League ties have produced over 3.5 goals, and an early goal could really set the tone in this mouthwatering tie.
