Can Chelsea win?

After a disappointing defeat against Brighton, Chelsea bounced back with a 1-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League. One result doesn't fix their poor form at present, but Enzo Maresca will be glad to head into the Liverpool match on the back of a win.

But let's look at the positives. Chelsea have only lost one of their four home matches this season, keeping a clean sheet in two of those (Crystal Palace and Fulham). On the road, it has been even better.

If they can replicate those results at home, they will be a threat to both Arsenal and Liverpool come the end of the season.

The unfortunate part for Chelsea is that Cole Palmer remains sidelined with a groin injury. Luke Colwill, Andrey Santos and Liam Delap are also on the treatment table - arguably three key players for them this season.

Slot must end losing streak

There won't be many times this season where Liverpool lose two games in a row - and Arne Slot will know he can't afford to make it three this weekend.

Crystal Palace and Galatasaray have taken advantage of being at home - and Liverpool will need to dust themselves down to make sure their travelling fans don't head home disappointed once more - especially against a title rival.

But no doubt key players will return to the starting XI this weekend. Mo Salah, Alexis Mac Allister, Andy Robertson and big money signing Alexander Isak were all benched in Turkey - and those four will be itching to get back on the pitch to help their teammates secure a huge win.

Chelsea won this fixture last season 3-1, although narrowly lost 2-1 at Anfield in the reverse fixture. However, it's important to note that Liverpool haven't won at Stamford Bridge since 2020 in any competition - that's a total of seven trips without a win. Slot has his work cut out to change that.

With both sides out of form, this is an intriguing clash with so much at stake already. Liverpool don't often lose two in a row, let alone three, but their record at Stamford Bridge is worrying. Let’s look at the Premier League betting odds.

Defences to be breached

Neither side will want to lose this but the defensive numbers don't bode well for either Chelsea or Liverpool.

Chelsea may have kept clean sheets against Crystal Palace and Fulham, but Brentford, Bayern, Man United and Brighton have at least scored two past Maresca's side - and Lincoln also found the back of the net in the cup. Worrying, to say the least.

Liverpool have kept just two clean sheets themselves this season - one at home to Arsenal, the other away to Burnley. But that leaves seven other matches where Slot's defence hasn't been switched on.

In fact, four of those seven matches have seen Liverpool concede two - which is rather unheard of when you look at their statistics from last season.

Yet both attacks look solid. Both teams have strengthened considerably in the final third and that should see the two sides produce a decent game of football.

With Estevao and Joao Pedro in one corner and Isak and Salah in the other, this could be a game to savour.
