Strong at the Bridge

After Chelsea's promising performance against Ajax in the Champions League, Maresca's side are back to work against Sunderland on Saturday.

From looking at their results, you wouldn't know that Chelsea have a huge injury crisis, but only Man City have scored more this season.

Sitting five points behind Arsenal, supporters will be hopeful they can get key players back in time to stay in the title race.

But if they continue this kind of form with their patched up squad, there's no reason to believe that Chelsea can't compete with this season's big guns.

There's plenty of options in reserve, and new players such as Estevao continue to catch the eye in the early stages of the season.

Black cats lacking goals

Sunderland will be delighted with how their season has begun. Sitting in 7th spot, the newly promoted side are clearly exceeding expectations.

However, that has largely been down to their form at the Stadium of Light - and on the road it hasn't been quite as glamarous.

Sunderland have picked up four points from a possible 12. And while they have only conceded four, the Black Cats have managed to scored just one against out-of-form Nottingham Forest.

It has been eight years since Sunderland last faced Chelsea at Stamford Bridge - but it was certainly a match to forget. Chelsea ran out 5-1 winners, and have won four of their last five meetings.

Sunderland did famously beat Chelsea away from back in 2014 - a result that helped them stay in the Premier League for another season.

Not only have Chelsea won four in a row - including wins vs Benfica and Liverpool - but they've scored 11 goals in the process. Something has clicked at Chelsea and there is a good energy around the squad at the moment.

Several youth players were included within the squad to face Ajax - and Maresca is clearly happy to give those wanting an opportunity minutes on the pitch if they are good enough - and against Ajax, they were.

Sunderland (7/1 with Betano) have made a solid start to the season - but away from home they need to show much more. Will that start at Stamford Bridge? It doesn't look that way considering they have failed to find the back of the net against Burnley, Crystal Palace and Man United.

Chelsea have been scoring for fun - but perhaps tired legs from midweek or further rotation may stop this game from getting out of hand. Chelsea and under 4.5 match goals seems to be the sensible play here.
