Tottenham’s Champions League campaign has been far more convincing than their domestic form.

Thomas Frank may be on the ropes but his team arrive in Germany knowing that a positive result would secure automatic qualification for the last 16.

A hard-fought 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund last time out put Spurs firmly on course for a top-eight finish, easing some pressure after a frustrating run of Premier League results that has left them struggling for consistency at home.

European nights have brought out the best in Spurs this season claiming notable away results in Milan and a draw in Lisbon. Even their three goals away to PSG shows how dangerous they can be.

Frankfurt down and out

Frankfurt’s Champions League journey has unravelled quickly and they head into the final round already eliminated. With just one win from their opening seven matches it has been an incredibly poor campaign for the German outfit.

Their 3-2 defeat against Qarabag last time out was another prime example of their inability to keep clean sheets which has ultimately cost them this season.

Their home form has been marginally stronger - but Frankfurt do head into this contest on the back of a 3-1 Bundesliga defeat against Hoffenheim. They have now gone six matches without keeping a clean sheet.

With nothing left to play for beyond pride, Frankfurt may approach the game more relaxed, but that could play into Spurs' hands who are still hoping to confirm their spot in the next round.

These two sides have met on four previous occasions with Spurs holding the advantage and remaining unbeaten (W2 D2). This included a 1-0 win in last season’s Europa League quarter-final second leg thanks to a Dominic Solanke penalty.

Spurs (5/6 with Betfred) are the favourites given the gulf in motivation and European form. Frankfurt (3/1 with Betano) head into this contest winless in their last six (D3 L3) but more worryingly have conceded three goals in five of those matches.

At home they hammered Galatasaray early on in the competition but two hefty defeats against Atalanta and Liverpool have followed, with their defence seemingly unable to match the level required to win matches.

And while Spurs have failed to win on the road, draws against Monaco and Bodo/Glimt have proven to be adequate results, while losing against PSG in their own back yard is hardly a concern.

But now they have a real opportunity to head into the knockout stage proving they are capable on the road in Europe, too, against a club incapable of defending to a decent level.

Spurs have the perfect opportunity to bank their first away win of the campaign against a side that has found life tough in the Champions League - both at home and on the road.

Thomas Frank is on thin ice - but this is his chance to showcase why he can turn things around at the club - especially with his side performing much better in Europe.
