Alarm bells ringing at Anfield

Liverpool are in an unfamiliar situation - if I am to be extremely lenient.

Having lost four of their last five matches across all competitions, Liverpool fans haven't seen their club win a Premier League match since the back end of September.

Crystal Palace, Galatasaray, Chelsea, Man United and Brentford have all found ways to easily break the champions who look unrecognisable compared to last campaign.

Their defence is all over the place, the midfield looks to have no organisation and star forwards brought to the club in the summer haven't added anything of real value.

Villa looking a threat

And so it is an extremely bad time for high-flying Aston Villa to be in town.

In complete contrast, Unai Emery's side have won six of their last seven matches across all competitions, including beating Man City last time out. Confidence is high within the camp - and rightly so.

Aston Villa head into this fixture on the back of a 2-1 win against Spurs last time out in the Premier League, and with no major injury concerns to worry about, the visitors will fancy their chances of being added to that growing list of teams that have beaten Liverpool of late.

Despite Liverpool's lack of recent form, they haven't lost against Aston Villa since 2020 when they ran out 7-2 winners. Since the two sides have met on 10 occasions where Liverpool have won six and drawn four.

Last season, Liverpool won this fixture 2-0 thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah.

Villa can't be ignorede

There's no doubt that Liverpool (3/5 with Betfred) - like Man City last season - will soon stop the rot and bounce back to form. Arne Slot and his squad haven't become a bad team overnight - that simply doesn't happen at this level.

However, for that result to come against Aston Villa (9/2 with Betano) doesn't seem logical based on what we have seen in October.

Villa are an extremely settled side. Emery is an extremely good manager who has worked wonders to get this squad to where they are. With so much attacking talent on display - yet experience at the back - the visitors won't be concerned about their poor record against Liverpool.

If anything, now is the time to strike and break that bad run - because Liverpool look to be all over the place - and to pull it all together against Aston Villa doesn't make sense.
