LIVERPOOL EXPECTED TO DOMINATE

Liverpool won the Premier League last season; they secured the title with a 5-1 win against Tottenham at Anfield with four games to spare. The Reds are currently fourth in the table and look out of the title race, so they’ll be focusing on the FA Cup. Arne Slot’s side comes into this fixture on the back of three draws against Leeds, Fulham and Arsenal.

Last season, Liverpool had a disappointing FA Cup campaign. They were knocked out in the fourth round. The Reds beat Accrington in a convincing 4-0 win in the third round, but went out in a 1-0 defeat away to Plymouth.

BARNSLEY AIM FOR A SURPRISE RESULT AT ANFIELD

Barnsley finished just outside the play-off places last season; the Tykes have had a poor campaign so far. They’re sitting in 17th, just four places above the relegation zone. Conor Hourihane’s side have lost three of their last four and come into this fixture on the back of a 1-1 draw away to Wigan.

Davis Keillor-Dunn has been the club’s standout performer; he’s managed 11 goals and one assist so far. Last season, Barnsley got knocked out against Bristol Rovers on penalties. Barnsley were drawn against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup last season, but suffered a heavy 7–0 defeat at Old Trafford.

CHIESA LOOKS SET TO FIND THE NET AGAINST BARNSLEY

Federico Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus in August 2024 in a £10–12.5 million deal. Chiesa was expected to have an impact on the pitch, but injuries and competition for places has limited his playing time. The 28-year old has had only one start in the league, coming off the bench 14 times.

Chiesa has two goals to his name this season, which came against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace. With both Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitiké sidelined through injury, Chiesa is expected to get an opportunity up front as a central striker against Barnsley. If he starts, then he’ll have a strong chance of finding the back of the net against a Barnsley side which has struggled defensively.
