Liverpool take on Leeds at Anfield on New Year's Day hoping to build on their recent 2-1 win against Wolves. Arne Slot's side have climbed into 4th place and will be looking to close the gap on the top three.

Liverpool steadily improving

Liverpool's narrow victory over Wolves was their 10th win of the campaign, lifting them into a Champions League spot and leapfrogging Chelsea in the process.

While their title defence looks highly unlikely, Arne Slot's side are now seven games unbeaten, signing 2025 off with four consecutive victories. Improvement has certainly been made.

Three of those wins have come in the Premier League against Brighton, Spurs and Wolves - conceding just two goals in the process. Defensively, Slot's players are looking way more organised than earlier in the campaign.

Mo Salah may be at AFCON, but Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike are pulling their weight, both heading into this match in confident moods.

Leeds marching on

Since beating Chelsea back at the beginning of December, Leeds have gone five matches unbeaten and are now seven points clear of the relegation zone.

However, most of their good work has been done at Elland Road, which included a 3-3 draw with Liverpool at the start of December.

Convincing wins vs Crystal Palace and Chelsea have pulled them away from danger - but their away form still needs to improve.

And although Daniel Farke's side head to Anfield unbeaten in their last two matches on their travels - draws vs Brentford and Sunderland - they are now winless in six on the road.

Still, Leeds are on the up and will certainly make it difficult for the hosts.

As mentioned, these two sides played out a 3-3 thriller at Elland Road only a few weeks ago. Liverpool threw away a two goal lead during a difficult spell for the club. However, Leeds have only  beaten Liverpool once in their last ten meetings.

With Liverpool and Leeds enjoying a good run of form, it's going to take a solid performance from either side to claim all three points.

Liverpool to prove too strong

Liverpool (6/11 with Betfred) head into this encounter as strong favourites to rectify their 3-3 draw from the reverse fixture. After four consecutive wins, including three in the Premier League, it's an easy decision from the bookmakers to keep Liverpool fairly short.

After that disappointing draw, Liverpool have been almost flawless, which is why they are now sitting in the top four. The title may be out of reach, but Slot's players are showing plenty of fight - and quality - at both ends of the pitch.

Leeds (5/1 with Betano) head to Anfield in good spirits - but their away record is still of concern.  Having only beaten Wolves on their travels, the Yorkshire based club haven't shown their best work on the road.

Liverpool deserved to win against Leeds when they last faced each other, and back at home, they should have enough quality to make sure they protect their lead and see out the match.

Backing Liverpool to win is a short price, but combining under 4.5 goals that has landed in all four of their latest wins creates an enticing price worth taking.
