Liverpool ended their poor run of form with a 2-0 win vs West Ham at the weekend and will look to build on that result against high-flying Sunderland. The Black Cats also ended their three match winless run with a 3-2 win against Bournemouth at the Stadium of Light.
Will Liverpool build on their win or will Sunderland surprise yet another side this season? Our Premier League tipster Nathan Joyes gives us his best bet from this intriguing encounter.
Liverpool's Arne Slot - and fans - breathed a huge sigh of relief on Sunday. A 2-0 win against West Ham was not only three huge points but a confidence booster ahead of a hectic period.
Let's be clear. Liverpool are certainly not out of the woods just yet but this was a much improved performance against a side that had not lost their last three matches.
But the hosts now need to prove that wasn't a fluke and back it up with another three points if they are to keep tabs on the top four against Sunderland.
Alexander Isak was on the scoresheet for Liverpool - his first Premier League goal since joining - and the Swede will be hoping he can build on that goal against his former employers biggest rivals.
At the start of the season Sunderland would have been looking at this match as a free hit. However, after 13 matches, the Black Cats are perched one point above the reigning champions - they won't want to lose this.
Their three match winless run came to an end against Bournemouth at the weekend, coming from 2-0 down to pinch all three points. At home is where Sunderland have done most of their good work, picking up 15 points out of their 22 won so far.
On the road, it has been a different story. They may have beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but away from that result it is just one goal from five matches and four points from a possible 18. They also beat Forest - but they were in crisis mode at the time.
These two sides haven't met since 2017, sharing a 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light. Liverpool had previously won three of the last four meetings, and you need to go back to 2012 the last time Sunderland beat their next opponents. Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner scored the winner that day.
Liverpool may still be licking their wounds but their West Ham result was a step back in the right direction. Sunderland have been incredible this campaign - but not on their travels.
Nathan Joyes has analysed the Premier League odds for this match and is backing Slot to secure a second win in a matter of days.
Liverpool (4/11 with Betfred) are skinny odds to get the better of Sunderland (15/2) with Betano) and not many will be rushing to take it.
It's understandable. Liverpool's inconsistency is proving to be their Achilles Heel with the Premier League title likely to leave Anfield come the end of May.
But their performance against West Ham was a confident one - and one that secured the points against a side picking up form. Liverpool didn't allow the hosts a single shot on target - while firing in five of their own.
Sunderland will provide a different test. Perhaps a more difficult one. But they have really struggled to land a blow against anyone away from their stadium. Defeats against Fulham, Burnley and Man United - without scoring - have shown their weaknesses.
