Man City face off against Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium this weekend, hoping to build on their professional performance vs Wolves in their curtain raiser. And while Spurs brushed Burnley to one side, our football tipster Nathan Joyes believes the hosts will take all the beating.
Man City were mightily impressive as they hammered Wolves 4-0 at Molineux last weekend. And although Erling Haaland scored once again on the opening day of the Premier League season, it was Tijjani Reijnders that caught the eye. To top it off, Man City’s other new signing, Rayan Cherki, scored despite only getting 18 minutes.
So, are Man City back? It’s a fair question. Pep Guardiola’s team finished strong at the tail end of last season to comfortably secure Champions League football, and the Spaniard was quick to get his transfer business done early in the window.
The paper talk is very much surrounding Liverpool and Arsenal, but a City comeback cannot be ruled out - and at home, they are going to be very tough to beat.
Thomas Frank relied on some Brazilian magic from Richarlison to get up and running last weekend. His brace alongside Brennan Johnson’s second half strike saw them comfortably beat Burnley - but this match will certainly put Frank’s tactics to the test.
Last season was dismal for Spurs in the Premier League. And although they suffered heavily with injuries, fans will be hoping they can battle back and finish in the top four come May. If they are to achieve that, Spurs will need their new recruit, Mohammed Kudus, to deliver.
The Ghanaian did that on his Premier League debut with two assists, but it will be interesting to see how many opportunities he will get at the Etihad this weekend.
Man City have just about edged Spurs out in the last five meetings, winning three compared to Tottenham’s two. However, the visitors return to the scene where they won 4-0 last campaign - where a first half brace from James Maddison started what was a historic result for the club.
However, the Englishman is out injured for the vast majority of the season, and with Heung Min-Son now in the MLS, this is a very different XI set to challenge Man City on Saturday afternoon.
Both sides will be confident of a positive result but there’s something highly intriguing about Man City at the start of this season - and keeping Erling Haaland quiet when he’s in the mood - is never easy. Can the Norwegian striker again? It would take a brave punter to back against him. Let’s investigate the Premier League betting odds.
It took just 34 minutes for Haaland to fire in his first Premier League goal of the season, and 27 minutes later, the Norwegian was on a hattrick. Sadly it didn’t come for the forward, but he’ll be relishing playing back at home as he looks to win the golden boot back off Mohammed Salah.
Pep Guardiola spoke in his post match conference about his team and that they have “fresh energy” who are chasing a sixth straight Premier League win at the Etihad this weekend. The head coach is clearly confident - and not one to shy away when his team aren’t performing - indicating he has belief in his squad this season.
Spurs still believe they are short this campaign, looking to bring in Man City’s very own Savinho as well as Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. If they land either - or both - Frank will have a team capable of challenging at the right end of the table.
But without those additions, Spurs’ best XI may not be able to go toe-to-toe with Pep’s settled new side - and it’ll be a miracle if they replicate last season’s 4-0.
TIP: Man City to win and Erling Haaland to score at 20/21 with Betano.
