Our resident football tipster Nathan Joyes is back to analyse the possible Nations League trends heading into the opening round. Who has been performing well domestically and is ready to step up for their country? Nathan has provided his thoughts on the stats and data, and highlighted a few players to keep an eye on over the next couple of weeks as well as general betting advice ahead of hectic midweek card.

Nations League betting: Gordon to grab an assist

With the first round of Nations League fixtures taking place this week, there may be little to go on in terms of international betting without a ball being kicked since the World Cup.

We can, however, reflect on individuals who have been performing well domestically and look capable of stepping up for their country over this extended break.

One individual I want to mention is Anthony Gordon. The 25-year-old has excelled since his move to Barcelona during the summer, having produced four La Liga assists in just six matches. During the World Cup, Gordon produced two assists in 29 minutes against DR Congo, before adding to his total with another vs Norway.

The winger went one better with a goal against Argentina in the semi-finals, and with his experience against Spain opposition in La Liga, he could be the one to make the difference for England in their opening Nations League match.

If not, England have easier opponents over the next couple of weeks. They'll face off against Czech Republic twice before facing Croatia. If Gordon starts, he could be a strong bet to assist once more with BetMGM. Other UK bookmakers offer to score or assist markets, and with Harry Kane a short price, this creates plenty of value for Barcelona's new forward.

Nations League betting: Olise to score?

Another star performer this campaign is Bayern's Michael Olise. The 24-year-old has four in four in the Bundesliga, and while he may not have scored at the World Cup, the winger did produce a whopping seven assists.

France face a Turkiye side that conceded left, right and centre in the US, before two clashes against Belgium and Italy in the next couple of weeks.

Both Turkiye and Belgium didn't impress this summer, and Olise provides plenty of value every time he steps on the pitch to either score or assist.

However, with Kylian Mbappe set to lead the line once again, Olise may take up the role as an assister once more.

His role for France is different to what he does at Bayern, and similar to Gordon, the assist market with BetMGM is certainly worth exploring, especially when there's so much talent finding space in the final third.

Nations League betting: Back Brobbey at home

There's a huge clash as the Netherlands take on rivals Germany in Amsterdam and it might be worth siding with Sunderland's hattrick hero vs Man City to get himself on the scoresheet.

Brian Brobbey, who scored three goals in four World Cup matches, had gone through a dry patch before stealing the show against Man City last time out. The 24-year-old may not have won the match at the Etihad but the forward put in his best performance before jetting off to represent his country.

The Netherlands face Germany, who have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last five matches. In fact, they have only kept two clean sheets on their travels since June 2024 - and one of those came against Luxembourg.

Cody Gakpo will be a popular bet, but he only has one Premier League goal to his name this season, while Crysencio Summerville was sent off last time out for Al Hilal, and hasn't scored in his last four matches.

Will Germany keep a clean sheet? Their squad doesn't look good enough, while Brobbey will have a spring in his step after his hattrick last time out.
