Newcastle and Nottingham Forest do battle in the Premier League on Sunday, both sides looking to bounce back after subpar starts to the season. Read our betting tips and predictions below.
As was the case in the 2-3 defeat to Liverpool, Newcastle were denied a point at the death against Arsenal, with Gabriel heading home in stoppage time. The result would've particularly stung Eddie Howe, with his side leading until former player Mikel Merino headed home in the 84th minute. It means the Toon Army have won just once this season - a 1-0 win over basement boys Wolves.
While defensively, they have been resolute, keeping a clean sheet in 4/6, they have struggled going forward with their four goals scored the joint fewest in the Premier League. The absence of Alexander Isak is certainly being felt, despite new signing Nick Woltemade scoring half of Newcastle's league goals this campaign.
Away from home, Howe is more pragmatic, favouring a 5-3-2 formation, but in front of an expectant home crowd, he will have to be more adventurous, so an interesting battle is set to ensue against Ange Postecoglu's Nottingham Forest.
On the injury front, Tino Livramento was stretchered off against Arsenal so faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, while Yoanne Wissa and Jacob Ramsey remain out.
Despite a historic season for Nottingham Forest that saw them qualify for the Europa League, Nuno Espírito Santo was dismissed as manager after just three games, with his relationship with controversial owner Evangelos Marinalis turning sour. Ange Postecoglou was quickly appointed after his Europa League triumph with Tottenham.
Since his appointment, The Reds have failed to win a game, with away draws at Burnley and Real Betis sandwich in between losses at Arsenal and Swansea and a home loss to Sunderland. While some performances, especially the draw at Betis have shown promise, many issues that were prominent in his spell in North London have cropped up - something that may worry Forest fans and the hierarchy.
Newcastle United have enjoyed the upper hand in recent meetings with Nottingham Forest, winning the majority of their clashes over the past few seasons. One of the standout encounters came in February 2025, when Newcastle stormed into a 4-1 lead at St James’ Park after a blistering first-half spell, eventually holding on for a thrilling 4-3 victory despite a spirited Forest fightback. Earlier in the same campaign, the Magpies also claimed a 3-1 win at the City Ground, underlining their dominance. With Newcastle consistently finding goals in this fixture, Forest will be eager to turn the tide in upcoming contests.

Over 2.5 Goals @8/11 - Betano
Ange Postecoglou has become renowned for his high-tempo, front footed approach to games and he is certainly a more adventurous manager than his predecessor. However, in his five games in charge, they are yet to keep a clean sheet, conceding ten goals.
Newcastle home games have seen 17 goals, for an average of 3.4 goals, with 4/5 seeing over 2.5 - the exception the scrappy 1-0 win over Wolves. With both teams needing a result and 5 of the last 6 meetings seeing at least three goals, there should be plenty of goals at St. James Park.
