Mauricio Pochettino is still leading the charge to become the next permanent Tottenham boss, according to the latest football betting odds. A plethora of candidates have been linked with the post, with Igor Tudor currently holding down the reins on an interim basis.
In recent times, Tottenham have gone through a spate of some of the biggest managerial names in the game, including Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho, before wielding the axe. But their next appointment could take some interesting turns.
Currently installed as the bookies’ favourite at EVENS to be in the dugout for the first game of next season, Pochettino is gearing up for a home World Cup this summer as USA head coach. However, Pochettino, who previously managed Tottenham from 2014 to 2019, would arguably be a popular pick.
During his 202 Premier League matches at the helm, Pochettino steered his side to victory in 113 of them, denoting an impressive points-per-game ratio of 1.89. If you expand this across all competitions, Pochettino had one of the highest win rates as Tottenham boss, with a 54.3% success rate (159 out of 293 games).
Although things soured towards the end of his tenure, Pochettino took his side within touching distance of Premier League glory in 2016 before they were trumped by Leicester City. Then, in 2019, he guided the North London outfit to the Champions League Final, only to come up short against Liverpool.
In terms of style, Pochettino had a distinct philosophy, and he tried out new formations to bring the best out of his team. Invariably providing an entertaining brand of football, Tottenham reached new heights under Pochettino, and some fans wouldn’t object to his return.
Arguably a dark horse, Robbie Keane, an ex-Tottenham icon, has gained favour from many of the top UK betting sites to get the job, and he’s currently valued at 8/1. Having had stints in charge of the Republic of Ireland and Middlesbrough, Keane has been weaving his magic at Hungarian side Ferencvaros, where he won the league title last season.
Interestingly, Keane has been touted as a potential candidate to replace Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace in the summer. However, his lack of Premier League experience may count against him.
Sandwiched in between Pochettino and Keane, and you will find Roberto De Zerbi at 5/1. Boasting one of the best Premier League win rates when he was Brighton manager (37.1%), the Italian tactician was renowned for monopolising possession, and building up play from the back.
Perhaps more surprisingly, De Zerbi lasted just under two years in charge of Marseille before leaving by mutual consent following a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain. While his top-flight experience counts for something, it remains to be seen whether the Tottenham board will take a punt.
Despite being three games into his interim spell, it has been a chastening experience for Tudor. A 3-1 defeat at home to Palace in midweek, has left Tottenham in 16th in the table, and in grave danger of going down. Moreover, Tudor is dealing with a side lacking in self-belief and winless in the league in 2026.
The manner of their capitulation against the Eagles saw thousands of fans desert the stadium early, and their odds of being relegated have been cut. Before kick-off, Opta gave Tottenham an 8% chance of dropping to the Championship, but in the wake of the defeat, this has risen to 14%.
