Sunderland must bounce back

Sunderland head into this fixture as the only home side in the Premier League yet to lose in front of their own fans (W6 D5).

However, with just one league win to their name in 2026, Sunderland have slipped down the table - but with 13 points above the bottom three there's nothing major to panic about.

Last time out at home Sunderland were victorious once more against Crystal Palace, and having scored in four of their last five at home - only failing to fire vs Man City - the Black Cats have been sharp in front of goal.

Brian Brobbey was the match winner against Palace and returned to the scoresheet in their recent 3-1 defeat vs Sunderland.

The Dutchman is now their top goalscorer in the league - aiming to score in three straight matches on Monday night and bounce back from that away loss.

Now or never for Burnley

It couldn't be more contrasting for Burnley this season who have struggled with life back in the Premier League.

With just one away victory to their name against 20th placed Wolves, Burnley have lost six of their  11 away matches - which is why they are on the brink of returning to the Championship.

But results - and performances - have picked up of late and the Clarets head to Sunderland on the back of a four match unbeaten run.

Three Premier League draws in a row against Man United, Liverpool and Spurs - with a 5-1 hammering against Millwall in the FA Cup sandwiched in between - has shown they aren't willing to go down without a fight.

Burnley may not have won on the road since October, but a draw at Anfield last time out will have certainly boosted their confidence.

Sunderland (3/4 with Betfred) continue to be almost foot perfect at home, and while their away form needs work, it's hard to ignore what they are doing at the Stadium of Light.

With three wins from their last five at home, including wins against Newcastle and Bournemouth, it's difficult to see Burnley (4/1 with Betano) becoming the first team to beat them in front of their own fans.

Performances have improved but on the road it continues to be the same old story. They may have picked up a point against Liverpool - but they did with just one shot on target - and Burnley were fortunate to walk away with something from the game.

Sunderland have a spring in their step in front of their supporters. The stadium can be intimidating and sometimes there's no need to overcomplicate selections. Burnley don't have a good record here - nor do they often score at this venue - and so the home win seems a sensible play.
