Sunderland to be tested

This will no doubt be Sunderland's toughest test to date at the Stadium of Light.

Although the Black Cats held Arsenal earlier in the campaign, Sunderland have no less than six of their players at AFCON.

They noticed a drop off in form when held to a 1-1 draw against relegation threatened Leeds - a side winless on their travels in their last six matches.

And while they are unbeaten in nine Premier League home matches, facing a title contender without key players - as well as Dan Ballard - will be an extremely difficult task.

But that doesn't mean their fans won't be optimistic having already beaten Newcastle and Chelsea this season.

Man City are flying

Pep Guardiola's side extended their winning run to eight matches after beating Nottingham Forest last weekend.

In four of those games Man City have kept clean sheets, and are keeping close tabs with Arsenal for the Premier League title.

Erling Haaland has, of course, played his part in this recent run. The Norweigan has scored six goals but it has been Rayan Cherki that has stolen the headlines in recent weeks.

The Frenchman scored and assisted against Forest - taking his goal contribution tally to nine from 13 Premier League matches in his debut season.

Nobody can stop Man City at the moment - and a depleted Sunderland side may just have their work cut out.

Man City comfortably beat Sunderland 3-0 in the reverse fixture at the beginning of December. Goals from Ruben Dias, Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol saw Guardiola's side win with ease.

In fact, Man City have often enjoyed facing Sunderland, winning their last eight head-to-heads stretching back to 2013.

Sunderland (6/1 with Betfred) at this price would have been appealing on the Asian Handicap line. We bagged a win with the exact same bet when Arsenal came to town, but this time round it's very different.

With so many of Sunderland's key players at AFCON, the Black Cats are going to find the next couple of weeks tough - and it doesn't get more difficult than facing an in-form Man City side (2/5 with Betano).

Guardiola's side have been ruthless - both home and away - in recent weeks. Throw in the fact they brushed a full strength Sunderland team to one side at the Etihad 3-0 just shows why the bookmakers aren't taking any chances this time round.

But it's also difficult to ignore the form of Cherki who heads to Sunderland with a goal and assist to his name vs Forest - and that was his 7th Premier League assist of the season. He can be the difference to unlock Sunderland's defence once more, as Man City topple the Black Cats for a second time this season.
